drive in a bus lane..... you'll get fined and points
park on a zig zag, on a quiet road at night.... fine and points

get accused of drunk driving...even half hour after getting home, the police are entitled to invade your home and breathalize you and arrest you...and it's up to you to prove that you werent drunk when you were driving even though it was half hour before

On the other hand..
get caught with £6,000 worth of drugs.... no charge
caught driving under the influence of drugs, the CPS wont prosecute
even the heroin junkie, who was caught driving under the influence wasnt charged didnt lose his licence until a later date when he was caught drunk driving.

is it any wonder, decent middle class driver feel that they are at more risk of being prosecuted than junkies and dealers?

No one is saying that drunk drivers shouldnt suffer the consequences, but I question the ethics of invading someones home - on the word of an anonymous tipster - half hour after the possible drink-drive offence was commited, and THEN saying that is is up to the person to prove that they HADNT commited an offence.

and it seemed to me like the cop charging the zigzag parker was going to give her a ticket, even before her friends started poking their noses in.

It is infuriating, it really does seem to be one rule for one lot of people and another rule for everyone else.
And that programme, whilst all intentions are good I'm sure, just highlights the injustice and makes the police look as if they are being petty and picking on 'normal' people who may be breaking a minor bylaw.
Stick to Dog the Bounty Hunter, totally unrealistic and a shot of humour thrown in for good measure!!

Not angry just glad the police are upholding the law. In the past we have criticised the Police for not carrying out their responsibilities.

There seems to be a trend today that we are above the law and can please ourselves which laws we want to adhere to.

I must admit though the examples shown make it look as though the Police are chasing favourable arrest statistics. I'm sure other departments in the Police are also pursuing the more serious crimes.

Incidentaly the female outside the takeaway was completely disregarding the law on three accounts. Parking within the zig-zag at a pedestrian crossing, parking her vehicle on the wrong side of the road in the hours of darkness and parking in a manner that was causing an obstruction.

I know what you mean. I always wanted to be a traffic cop, But the meddling coming from the top would just drive me mad. Why dont they use a little common sense. The zig zag parker girl deserves a fine as she did do something stupid, but why the points. And as for the drug stop team in Southampton. What a waste of public money, When all the people you stop you cant do anything about.
But we must remember there are only a small few coppers that are completely anal. Most are good people just doin what there told.

The girl parked on "Zig Zags" broke the law without a doubt. Not too sure that I would class the road outside the Chinese takeaway as a quiet road. However, I agree entirely with a previous answer that a fine (no points) is sufficient punishment. After all it was stupidity rather than an out and out CRIME. I would also say that her mouthy "friends" did her case no good whatsoever and should know when to keep their mouths closed.

hey drink driving is soo wrong and if you want to take the risk then accept the consequences even if you do get home before they breathilize you.

Driving under the influence of drugs is also very wrong, but it's all down to what can be proven.

Maybe there will be more conclusive tests for numpties who get off there face and drive in the near future.

The problem with drivers under the influence is that it is always some innocent poor sod who gets hurt.

Leave the car at home and get a taxi that's what I say.

I watched the programme and thought 'Yeah, pick on the motorist again, easy pickings, fines blah blah....but the ziz zag parker was almost in the middle of the road! As for all the other tests it is a waste of time cos nothing happens, like you say, it's the ordinary law abiding person who gets done and why? Cos they've got the potential to pay the imposed fine!

I understand what you are saying here, but I have no time for people who park outside of the law. They are lazy and don't want to walk a little bit. The rules of the road are for everyones safety, and if people can't see that then they are moronic. It's not rocket science.

So your saying its NOT the POLICE's fault but the CPS !! How frustrated do you think the police officer gets when they arrest and charge these people and the CPS wont run with it !! If that's the case why have a go at the police why don't you point your finger at the CPS for their inadequacies ?

I don't think the solution is to let the drunk drivers off....shouldn't it be to prosecute the druggies too?

I would contest that there is such a thing as a decent middle class driver who is drunk....they are all potential murderers surely?
