Would it be comforting to respond to someone who is severly physically or mentally stunted, or someone with a sever handicap if they ask: why am I here, or why me? With: to test the rest of us?

Oh my goodness......Christians either are not on the same page--obviously, or they constantly mold and switch their story to fit the question.
Almost all christians in every single other question I've ever asked on this topic said they were put here 'as a test'..to our compassion, or the like.

~~~jane j ,,, You must take each Individual Person and their Individual Situation to ascertain how they would respond to this "Opinion". You MUST know your Patient ! Those of us educated Reincarnationists consider this whole place to be Earth School for the Developement of the Soul, therefore EVERYTHING is a test for EVERYBODY. Once a person becomes An Enlightened Being, then we move on,,, or Graduate to another level,,, somewhere else,,, a Graduate School somewhere in The Great Cosmos. ~FYI: Basic Psychology 101,,,, Never counsel an Alcoholic about their behaviour while the person is Intoxicated,,,, Don't present a Hypothetical to a severely handicapped person who has Obvious Signs of Depression as they question their own Victimization and Suffering, as this can exacerbate the problem.
So lets see, did maybe one christian say this yet you're assuming that all christians think it? That's ridiculous. I'm guessing that you don't actually know any severely retarded people, or you'd have a bit more knowledge. If you did know any, you'd know how very sweet and loving they can be, what a joy they can be. They're not here to "test" us any more than you are.
Maybe God put them here so He can look down on humanity and see their bright lights of innocence, since the rest of us are pretty darn jaded and have lost that light. He sees the soul, which is what will live on, not the physical body, which is only temporary housing. You are judging them as being less than we are, when in fact it may be the complete opposite.
I did have someone tell me once that terrible things happened to people because "god" is testing us. So, if a child is murdered, there must be some lesson to learn, or test to endure.
If so, I don't think it's worth the cost. Let me remain in ignorance and let the child live.
I honestly don't think many people agree with such an awful pov, but it is out there...
I would think it would be hurtful. The truth is that we are all here to love God and one day be with him and because God loved us enough to create us. If someone is born handicapped, then yes they may be a test eventually in someones life, but that is not the reason that the person was born.
It's an unfortunate tendency in humans to try to explain everything that we can't understand. It's hard to accept the fact that there are some things we may never figure out. If we treat everyone the way we want to be treated, we've come a long way.
They were not put here as a test, but are under the watchful eye of God. He will deal with those who are cruel to the phsyically and mentally less fortunate
Let the truth be know though. Anyone who doesn't have compassion for the handicapped are the ones with the real handicap called ignorance.
Jane, My sweet precious thoughtful dear dear friend (act like you know me). Your question Is answered by the social and educational retardation that religious people suffer.
Oh dear me.. I fear I might hurt their poor delusional feelings. It is after all wrong of us to refer to them as social retards.
I'll explain social retardation and social degradation by religion.
I was a wonderfully healthy man that had his entire life ahead of him. I had even planned on being a musician. This Nun attempted to cut my fingers off in catholic school. Yes evil lives in Catholic School. Then I went to work on off shore oil rigs and it was ok. But it got old. So I joined the Army.
I got blown up in Iraq in the last war and my right leg my sexual equipment and my right hand went kablooy. I died. and yes I was a Jesus Heathen. I'm sorry for that.
Well I'm Dead and I get told it's all a lie. Religions were made by men and Bael (Satan) made Islam.
I come back and have this understanding and I know things that I never learned .
Believe it or not. I am severely and forcibly Physically retarded. But My mind is clear of religion. I know that it is all a lie and believe it or not. I love people.
Religion is forced mind control. It is made by men to make men evil and it is bad. so don't believe and save yourself.
This explains well with the Karma theory. You get what you do. You are what you did in your previous lives. That said it is everyone's moral responsibility and duty to take them along in the spiritual journey and Love them. It also applies to rest of us to be good and polite to everyone and see for ourselves what happens if e err. But God does not interfere in Karma. He laid rules and all to follow them.
Jesus was once asked a question regarding a blind man. They ask " Teacher, who sinned that this man was born blind, his mother or his father?" Jesus replied, "Neither of them sinned. This man was born this way so that the Lord may be glorified through him." Jesus healed many blind people while here on earth with us. We are all imperfect, but it is those imperfections that make God's glory known so that the world may know that the great things that are done are not done by our own power, but by God's.
I should point out, however that the word "retard" is considered disrespectful when referring to people with mental disabilities. My cousin is a support aide for such people, and she has the utmost compassion and respect for them...so much so that when I ask her what their afflictions are, she has trouble remembering, because she sees them as people with distinctive personalities, and not as labels such as Down's Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, Autistic, etc. Just another kind of species that are full of love.
