I have a female cat who is siamese-burmese cross. She just turned twelve. She may need to be spayed due to several reasons. She started having kittens after she turned 8yrs old. Now she's sick and tired of it ,but keeps getting pregnant ( I have 5 other cats too ). And the another reason is that she might have some sort of infection. Pyometra, i think. But i hope not. I still need to get her checked by the Vet.
I'm worried that she's too old , and might not survive the surgery. Since i heard that there is risk with Anesthesia. That some pets just die when given that. i'm afraid of loosing her. please tell me whether it's safe or not. I don't know what to do :(

Another thing is that the Vets in my Country don't have many high tech medical equipment and stuff like that. So they cannot perform any complicated procedures or tests etc. Which is another reason why i'm so worried.

If she has pyometra she will die so it might be worth the risk. Also since she wasn't spayed early she has a high risk of getting mammary cancer which could also result in death. The vets should be able to send of bloodwork to a lab somewhere even if you are in the country. A full CBC and biochemistry and urinanalysis should at least be done. As long as she is not currently in heat the procedure should be short and she should be provided IV fluids during the surgery. A blood pressure monitor would be ideal but they might not have this. The fact is not spaying earlier her put her at risk for deadly pyometra or cancer. The cancer risk is there and cannot be reversed but the number one treatment for pyometra is spaying, anything else is just too much of a risk to her. I would discuss this extensively with your veterinarian and if you feel that she needs more in the way of surgical monitoring then ask your vet to help you find a place that has more sophisticated equipment perhaps even a veterinary college. After she is taken care of please spay and neuter the rest of your animals so you are not put in this position again.

I recently had to have my cat spayed. She was 10 1/2 years old. She had never had kittens. I assumed she was sterile. This past summer she got pregnant and had a stillborn kitten. Never had anymore.

It was obvious she was still pregnant. 24 hours later I took her to the vet. They spayed her and removed a ball of dead kittens inside her. They said if I hadn't gotten her spayed then, she would've died.

She had her 11th birthday last Sept. She had no problems after being spayed. I thought she was awfully old, but the vet acted like it was really no big deal. They said that they are never to old to be spayed.

As far as I know, getting a cat spayed at that age is very risky. See if there is a birth control pill for your cat if spaying is not an option.

Hopefully your other cats are fixed as to avoid all of this in the future!

The age is not as important as her health. You need to consult a vet and have a CBC and Pre-Anesthia Panel done. This will tell your Vet if she can handle the anesthia and the surgery. If she does have pyometra she needs vet attention immediatly! This can be life threatening! It is a bacteria in her uterus/bloodstream. SEEK help now!
