My wife didn't work this year...should we file jointly or individually to get the best refund?

Just in case this is a trick question, I will say...it depends. Does she have other income? Any deductions? Is your income high enough to worry about AMT? Did she have high medical bills and lowish other income?

If so, you need to at least consider filing separate.

If the truth of the matter is that she had no income at all, I agree with the others. File jointly, no doubt about it.

definitely jointly because if you file married filing separate each of you get penalized almost as single, even if she doesn't file any taxes. If you file jointly you can get credit for her deductions since she is yr wife.
