I know he is a great patriot-but he seemed a little shaky when there was a war for him to fight.

Of course he could have. He also could have, at minimum, at least fulfilled his obligation with the National Guard. But even that was too much for him.

It's funny to see right wingers defend Bush's cowardice and at the same time smear any decorated combat veteran who is a Democrat.

Bush joined the Texas ANG to avoid the draft and Vietnam.

I was in class, in my second C school when a couple of SEALs came in and had a clipboard. They were looking for volunteers for duty in Nam. I signed up. Lots of my pals didn't, they instead stayed stateside, doing the job assigned to them. This does not diminish their dedication or patriotism in my eyes. Anyone could volunteer back then, some did, some didn't. Each for his or her own reasons. He did his hitch in the NG as did many others. Just a fact and really needs no further interpretation. It isn't as if he is running for office in 08.

President Bush Volunteered for the Texas Air National
which was scheduled for Vietnam, but the planes that
they were training in was retired and by the time they
would of had to train in new planes, the war would have
been over!!!!!!!!!!!

The president was not part of the type of squadron needed to prosecute the war then. F-102's were not needed in that theatre. So, they were not requested. You're presuming alot about force structuring and reserve component need/deployment..

He could have went Active and maybe volunteered......that would have been a personal choice.....Many many guys opted for the reserves. It's the same either way........he served and didn't run off to Canada or Russia

He was defending the state of Texas (when he was there) in the National Guard. But can you blame him?

Anyone would be nervous about sending young people to war. It's a huge responsibility. But he did what he felt was right and you can't fault someone for that.
