...does one of the "christians" invariably call me a "dyke"? Is that really considered an insult anymore?

And how come the "christians" can't actually answer my question? Nine-tenths of the answers to my question are variations of personal insults! I'm asking a genuine question about how to interpret the book of "absolute truth". I should think you guys would have an answer for this.

Here's the question, if you want to take a whack at it. Otherwise, feel free to answer why the Christians call people "dykes" when they stand up for homosexuals.

In case you haven't noticed, my dear, logic, tolerance, and non-discrimination is something religion has a huge problem with.
Homosexuality is a victimless crime. They just hate it because their Bible tells them to... and they don't even understand it. We have the religious reich to blame for this. People have always feared that which they could not explain... and religion has demonized it.

Homosexuality is a part of human nature, and is a part of everyday life for a lot of people. It is not a choice, and it is not a 'lifestyle'. (which is a bullshit term. Attilla the Hun had an active, outdoor lifestyle.) It's no 'sin', either.

Simple. They stand up for homosexuals and say "dyke" for the same reason White people said slaves were free and still called them "boy." It's a way to both look like they're on your side, and still keep you oppressed. It's racism or sexism or any other -ism at its worst.

[edit:] Regarding Christians' views on sexuality, here's what Sam Harris has to say in his book The End of Faith:

"The writers of Luke and Matthew, for instance, in seeking to make the life of Jesus conform to the Old Testament prophecy, insist that Mary conceived as a virgin (Greek 'parathenos'), harking to the Greek rendering of Isaiah 7:14. Unfortunately for fanciers of Mary's virginity, the Hebrew word 'alma' (for which 'parthenos' is an erroneous translation) simply means "yougn woman," without any implications of virginity. It seems all but certain that the Christian dogma of the virgin birth, and much of the church's resulting anxiety about sex, was the result of a mistranslation from the Hebrew" (94-95).

Interesting.

The reason they don't answer your question , is because they're confused. True Christians will never insult you with name calling.I'm a christian & I try to love everyone. I don't know all the answers, no-one does. God loves all people the same & wants whats best for us. Don't let peoples ignorant comments turn you away from Gods love. Check out , (The-Book) for your self.

Please don't assume that everyone claiming to be a Christian is. The Bible tells us that you'll know a Christian by the "fruit of the spirit". I can't imagine how any genuine Christian would insult someone like you've described. I'm not saying that Christians are without fault, but that's just a really harsh statement to make...that's not really a "I slipped up and made a mistake." That's a "I want to be mean and hateful to everyone." kinda thing.

Many people want to give an answer, but don't really have one. Profanity is simply a substitute for thinking.

There are homosexuals in the world. I don't know why. It does seem that God could have straightened out that little glitch in the sexual plan if He wanted to.

But He didn't, and neither has He fixed a number of other things that people feel He should if He is able.

They use that as an excuse to disbelieve. I believe that there are some things that will be with us as long as there is a world to live in. Some we should try to make better, if we're able, others we should leave alone.

It's more important to me to minister love and compassion to people who are hurting.

If they come to faith in God, and God wants them to change, He can make it happen.

But, there's nothing we can do one way or the other - except to drive them away from God.

I don't want to face Him knowing I drove people away from Him, instead of drawing them close.

That's not very nice to call anyone names. Beware of false teachings, anyone can fall victim of taking what they want out of the bible. It even warns that people will misinterpret it.

I think Homosexuality sticks in christian minds, because it says that these sexual immoralities are detestable to God. It does say he 'hates' divorce, but Christians still do it.

My opinion is that I don't care what anyone else does. I am responsible for only myself. If someone want to go against the bible, believer or not, that's there prerogative.
I don't believe its OK to be have homosexual relations, I don't believe in divorce, I don't believe in premarital sex, etc. But I'm not going to try to Nazi someone Else's life and tell them they are wrong

First of all the Bible is to be understood and obeyed and not interpreted. You just dont' like the answer you are going to get. And no matter how many times you ask that question, no matter how many times you try to re word it... you are going to get the same answer. God condiders homosexuality an abomination punnishable by death! Only God shall pick the how where and when. You behavior and disobedience picked the why.

Leviticus 20:13 If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them.

Romans 1:2-32 Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.

26 For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature:

27 And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.

28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;

29 Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers,

30 Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents,

31 Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful:

32 Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.
pleasure Psa 10:3, 1st Cor 13:6

This is the word of God that is the truth you are asking about. What you do with it is up to you. But it clealy says that homosexuality is against the natural design of man and woman.

christians only take as literal truth those verses that do not cause them any issues or help them condemn others in a way to make them feel superior. case in point, since everyone has sinned with their hands and their eyes every christian should be maimed and blind, if not taking it one step further and chopping off their own heads... why? for it is written in the book of absolute truth as coming from the mouth of Jesus, god, or son of god... no real way around it, if it's all literally true. so how can we know that jesus was speaking in a metaphorical sense????

Matthew 18:8-9 (Mark 9:43-47)
"And if your hand or your foot causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away; it is better for you to enter life maimed or lame than with two hands or two feet to be thrown into the eternal fire. And if your eye causes you to sin, pluck it out and throw it away; it is better for you to enter life with one eye than with two eyes to be thrown into the hell of fire. "

I usually answer that "dyke" thing with a return "...and your point is.....?" and leave a moment of silence to let them understand that any ignorant, hate spewing isn't remotely working on me.

I thought I had a very good answer to the question you referenced. Of course, I am not a christian, so I can't speak for them, or anyone other than myself on any subject.
