I have naturally light brown hair, and I like it dark. I have been dying it for years. Each time I dye it, it seems to fade quicker and quicker. I dyed it a week ago (almost black) and it's already brown. This last time I used a no ammonia dye to try and protect it from more damage. Is there anything else I can do?? I don't want to go natural. Is there a different type of dye I can try? I got it professionally done once, and that didn't help at all, it still faded quick. I am using special shampoos & conditioners for color treated hair, and try to not get too much sun exposure. Any other tips???

Try using a pigmented shampoo, one especially for dark hair, and dont wash it too often.

Use a semi-permanent rinse inbetween your dyes for better color build-up. This will also improve the condition of your hair. If your hair is porous, (dry and damaged) then the color molecules wont be locked in to hair shaft, and therefore, wash away quickly.
Only do your roots for the first 15-25mins when coloring with a permanent color, then run the color through to the ends for the remaining time. T

Hope that helps..............

It is Actually Much better To Use Temporary Dyes And Dye Your Hair On A Monthly basis. Permanent Dye Wrecks your hair.

It must be your chemical make-up. I suggest dying your hair a color closest to you natural color. I get mine professionally done and it fades gradually. I usually have it done every 6 weeks as the grays are already coming back.

Try a really permanet dye. You may on accident be using a more temp. dye. Don't wash your hair every day. Wear a shower cap.

You may not be applying the dye properly. Follow the directions exactly.

I have the exact same problem!!! I've tried several dyes and even had professional try. It always fades! I finally quit dying it because it became so expensive.

I know Redken's color safe shampoo (don't remember what it's called) works really great. That's what I used when I colored my hair. Don't use cheap dye either. ^^ That just sucks.

hot water will open the cuticle of the hair and help it fade faster. So, when you wash your hair make sure the water is not hot and it should help the fading

If you want your hair black, and want it basically forever. Use nice and easy #122 natural black.
it will not wash out.
but then again, if you want to lighten your hair, you will have to wait till the black grows out.

maybe you could wash your hair less often like maybe once a week.
