God obviously not perfect. Exodus 20:5 clearly states "Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God [am] a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth [generation] of them that hate me;" God says he is a jealous God and will harm the children, grand children, and great grand-children for the father's sins. How is it possible God is perfect, but yet is jealous (of other gods maybe....see Exodus 20:3 clearly states you are not to worship other gods (plural) above him)? How is God all good, but yet will punish innocent children for things they have not done? Those are his words, how can Christians justify that?

Christian: "God cannot sin therefore his jealousy is one that is pure and holy"

i've debated this, and the one where god kills/murders people. and they always make the same point. seeing as god is "perfect" and "cannot sin" then he is not bound by the laws he places on us nor the description of the laws. killing is a sin unless your god, same with lying, jealousy.

just for the record, to those who think the bible doesnt say jealousy is wrong, and claim that "thou shalt not covet thy neighboors wife" doesnt apply here...

God is a jealous God and will destroy all idols from His earth.
The earth is His and all that is in it. He owns it all. Including you and me. He created it all. He is the Potter and we are the clay. He said He has a right to make a good pot and a bad pot. Visiting the iniquity is the same as placing the sin of the fathers upon the children and we carry these inherited diseases in our body today. "A curse, without a cause, does not come." God said that. If you sin it becomes a curse. Sin is disease. A curse is a disease.

God expects us to be obedient to Him and do what He tells us to do. When we sin against God, He is warning us about what will happen.

Read the Book of Job chapter 40. Job felt God was unjust also.
God asked Job, "Where were you when I created it all?" "Are you able to scatter the east wind upon the earth?" Where were you when I laid the foundation of the earth? Who shut up the sea with doors so the waves go only so far? Hast thou entered into the springs of the sea? Or have you walked in the search of the depth? (on the bottom of the sea) Where is the way where light dwells? Job 38, 39, & 40 are great chapters.

it truly is what i understand. Having worked at Barnes & Noble e book sellers, the bible has continually been the top #a million ideal company, maximum study, maximum requested & maximum produced. it truly is what i understand in my heart and from journey. The scriptures were inspired with information from the Holy Spirit in each and each and every author. there are countless translations. however, for human being who seeks the fact with an open heart they're going to discover it. The Holy Spirit is above the translation and may divulge to you the real which skill. not often can someone randomly p.c.. up the bible, study it, and comprehend it. There are mysteries purposely put in the bible which will purely be understood, with information from those in search of fact and prepared to exibit faith. To them this stuff are printed. I really were taught over many years the thanks to study & study the note and performance discovered sooo a lot and nonetheless I really have purely basically scratched the floor. that's inexaustable. The bible with all its authors do not once conflict with one yet another. they are of the same spirit. each and every answer to each and each and every problem in existence is in there. We do exactly not favor to take the time to seek it or out hearts. after we are studying the note, God is dealing with us, stirring us as he's revealing issues to us. often times we do not favor to be certain it or hear it, because we are terrified of the unknown or of having damage (fact is scary often times) . Or we do not have an additude of humility earlier the Lord & his note. once this happens the save closes up & the approach ceases because our Father not in any respect forces something on us. that's our decision to believe. We then get annoyed and often search for a speedy fix. humility is known

Jealousy must not be a bad thing if God is jealous. He is only jealous because he loves us and does not want us to be worshipping some other god who does not even exist. As for him visiting the iniquities to the 3rd and 4th generation, I think that he means that he will allow generational curses to be passed down to those generations. I think he is talking about things like alcoholism or some inherited disease. Everything he does or allows, believe it or not is for our benefit. Yeah I admit it does seem cruel and stuff but you just have to trust him because he knows everything there is to know and is always looking out for us.

You must didn't see the last 5 words of that scripture. It says "of them that hate me". Those of the generation that continue in their forefathers footsteps will also receive the same punishment. We are described as being the bride of Christ. If you are married, would you not be jealous if your wife went to another man while claiming to still be your wife? We are also described as being children of God. If your children continued to run away and not listen to your directions, would you not discipline them?

The Bible uses the word jealous to denote the fact that God will not share his people with any other god. He wants ALL of the person, not part of him. God is the God of totality, not partiality.

I agree with Preacher.

(I could compare it to the same as a father having a jealious love for his son who may be idolizing somebody elses Dad who lets him do things that are not in the best interest of the son. The Father will need to punish the son for his actions even though His love for the son has not changed.)

Few words as God said,

"As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts. Isaiah 55:9

You may think yourselve wise & expert but it would be so foolish to place confidence in such matters specially you're from earth.

the other "gods", GOD is mentioning are the fallen angels (demons) who control pagan religions and such. It's Just like through one person, sin entered the whole world. Sin is like a virus that is transmitted and therefore holiness is destroyed. Jesus is our redeemer and we should trust in him to rid of the "plague" that has corrupted the whole world.
