I have a Labradoodle, half standard poodle and half lab both parents were grand champion ukc breed. Unless both parents are of good quality and have papers you shouldn't pay much for it. Yes it is technically a mutt but he is the smartest kindest friendliest and playful dog I have ever owned. We bought him because of allergy issues in our home not because of some trend. this mixed breed has been around in australia for over 25 years, orginally started to help those who are blind with dog allergies. Designer dogs is a media attempt to name something that has been going on for years but is new to them.

I was talking to a breeder I found on the AKC website (for yorkies), she was breeding maltipoo (Maltese & Poodle) for $800. She said that they sell fast and are really popular; however, I spoke to my grandmother and she says that if you can't regsiter te dog, if the dog has no papers, then it's not worth that much. Its a mutt.

Instead I went to a rescue adopted out a miniature pinscher (she appears full bred). So..

I own a true "designed" dog.....a basset hound. The breed was carefully designed over many years by breeders with a vision to fulfil a specific purpose (hunting small game under close/rough cover and difficult terrain), then selectively bred for generations to refine the characteristics that make them suitable for the job they are intended to do.

Unfortunately, what are called "designer" dogs these days are in fact lacking any design or purpose, except to make money on cutesy names.

They are still mutts. People just found a way to market them so that they could get a lot of money from uneducated trend followers.

You won't find any "designer breed" with papers or championship titles. Therefor they're NOT worth the money that people are willing to pay.

I own a purebred pekingese. He was originally 900 dollars for the original owner who bought him from the pet store, but we got him and all his stuff for just 200 bucks. But we don't treat him like a designer dog so no I guess not?

Designer dogs can be cute, but they're still mutts! People shouldn't sell them for much and if you own one, realize it's not "designed" it was probably a mistake! Sorry!

My sister has a Snoodle (Snauzer (sp) and Poodle) and she paid $575 adnd it already had to have open heart surgery...I say go to the sheler, get you a loving, nice dog and save money- designer dogs have too many health problems.

Just fancy named mutts for those foolish enough to pay for them.
