My suggestion would be stop the spray right away.
If he is doing his business on your rugs then something is wrong with him even before you used the spray.
I hope he is drinking, they can go without food for a time, but not water. If he is not drinking you MUST get him to the vet.
You can call the vet's office and tell them what has been happening they may have a suggestion you can try.
Did you change litter brands? Sometimes they don't like some types of litter and won't use their box.
Be kind to him.
These are some suggestions for you.

I would call a vet, he may have a urinary tract infection or something else wrong. There is also the possibility that something scared him and he is afraid. Has anything changed in the house preceding this behavior? Sometimes even change get get cats weirded out like changing the furniture, or a new item that makes a noise he doesn't recognize. Has there been any stray animals around that he may have seen? Or have you been somewhere where you brought the scent of another animal home with you and he thinks it may be in the house? I bought a littermaid litterbox and when it automatically cleans the noise freaked out one cat and he didn't want to go near it. Yep, this is when you wish cats could talk. I would put him in a small room with his litterbox and things he likes and see if he will use the litterbox-if not then it may be a health issue that he doesn't understand and scares him. If you see when he pees/poops that he has difficulties-call the vet ASAP to get it treated before it gets worse. Make sure you give him lots of loving (remember-he's like a little kid and communicates in the only way he knows how to) and hope he's back to normal soon!!!

Doesn't sound like a reaction to the spray -- sounds like a reaction to you. Even if you don't remember (or intended) you probably scared the **** out of him. Yelling, spraying, cussing, etc, etc. Cats are sensitive and the first 'accident' might have just been that -- an accident! I'd keep giving you presents on the floor too. Since he is eating (even a little) he is ok. Try putting down his food and LEAVING -- bet he will eat in a little while.

I would want to know what kind of spray that you used. If your cat is a male and is neutered, then he shouldn't be messing on your rugs. Do you scoop your litter box every day? If the litterbox is messy or stinks, then your cat will not go in the litterbox. A cat's sense of smell is highly sensitive. Also, check to see if your cat is losing fur on his back or tail. That might be indicative of a negative reaction.
Usually when an animal doesn't eat, it usually indicates that your animal is sick. My cat had stones and wouldn't eat and would pee on our floor and not go in the litterbox at all. If you cat isn't eating or drinking, then you NEED to take the cat to the vet and find out why.

It sounds like he is SICK! Cats and other animals often have a major behavioural change when there is something wrong with him, and two days of this behaviour is more than enough to go to the vet. Although it is unlikely that it is an reaction to the spray, it is possible that he is allergic to it.

I also agree take him to the vet, there is definitely something wrong. When my cat got sick she stayed under the bed & also missed going in her litter. When cats are sick they are very quiet & hide. I also checked the internet to find out what was wrong, well I couldn't get her fast enought to the vet, poor kitty was in a lot of pain, had trouble with her urinairy tract & found out she had diabetes. thank god she's fine now. Please take him to the vet as soon as possible, you also phone your vet & tell them about kitty. Hope this helps, he is sick.

Take him to the vet, ASAP. Major behavioral changes can be triggered by sickness. Cats hide their sickness really well and it tends to manifests itself in defecating/peeing outside the litter box, not eating, and major changes in routine.

My cat did the SAME thing...She ended up having kidney failer... But she was 18 years old. I'm sure your cat is going to be fine...probably just has UTI. I hope everything works out wonderfully for you and your kitty.

Urgently get this kitty to a vet. Sound like urinary tract infection (not pleasant for kitty or you) and needs treatment asap.
Good luck.
