My family and I are non-smokers but recently we have been very much disturbed by my neighbours downstairs who smoke a lot everyday. It would be all right if he smokes inside his house but he would always do so in his balcony and all the cigarette smell would travel to my house.

Second-hand cigarette smell is just as bad and health threatening. We have already tried speaking to him but unfortunately he carried on doing so.

Is there anything else we can do? I'm living in SIngapore by the way. Would really appreciate if any of you can help us.

Thanks.

If you have a balcony above his, put lots of plants on it. Plants are known for absorbing CO from cigarettes. Put some in house too, research which ones do best. I agree also with the air purifier. Buy him a smokeless ashtray as a gift and put a note in it saying maybe this is a compromise he can live with. If you have windows on both sides, open only the other side. Put more insulation around doors and windows. Hope all these hints people are giving you help. Good luck my friend.

Hello =)

Sheesh...

The whole world tells us smokers to go outside to smoke, and not even that is good enough for some people....

I would suggest keeping your balcony door closed, for starters.

Running a HEPA filter 24/7 should help as well -- change the elements as recommended.

The very small amount of diffuse cigarette smoke that manages to make it into your house is harmful, I will agree, but at that small quantity, it is no more harmful than much of the pollution in the air of densely populated Singapore, from motorcars and boat traffic. So I wouldn't get too upset over the health aspects of it. But I do know that if you hate smoking, the smell can be really annoying.

Are you Buddhist?? Always remember that other peoples right to be happy is not less important than your own........

Namaste,

You should probably buy an powerful air purifier. There's not much you can do about him smoking on his own property.

Ionic Breeze air cleaners are great!
Consider "smoke out" candles.
