What about murder, rape, incest, torture, cannibalism, etc? Myself, I think those are unacceptable even if god commands it.

Preacher, you said "Yes. But God will not do anything that is outside his character."

That character includes drowning babies in the flood. Do you think it is ok for god to drown babies?

If god tells you to drown babies, which is in his character, and you do it, are you more or less moral than me when I refuse?

Summer Breeze: Man is responsible for what he does, but god is responsible for the punishment. He can choose any punishment he wants. He chose to drown babies in the flood.

Yes, of course. God would, of course, have good reason for his actions. Unlike pagan gods who have required blood sacrifice (and even the pre-christ God of Israel), the advent of "christianity" (brought on by the crucificion of Jesus) has balanced out any further need for "blood sacrifice".

All the commandments that God wants Christians to follow is already quoted in the bible. No new ones will pop up if that is what your asking. God does not "Do" commands he made them for "mankind".
And for those of you that ask silly questions as about the killing of infants. The things that occurred in Biblical times is just that for those times and those people. For us it is to STUDY and LEARN from. The commandments that were created are what we are to follow in our everyday life and no there not going to change they stand as they are so don't worry about God commanding you to do some ridiculous thought you have in your head.

Steve quit trying to minimize the focus to the killing of babies because of the great flood. That is not the concept behind having the great flood in the first place. And God gave people the opportunity to listen to Noah and go on the Ark but people mocked Noah and didn't believe that such a flood would occur and they didn't believe in God.

Yes, of course. God is God. Whatever He commands or does, whether we like it or not, we accept it because it's His will. He cannot err or go wrong because He cannot sin, so whatever He does is according to His perfect will and plan, making it acceptable to Christians. Christians know that He is all-knowing and is perfect in every way. Dueteronomy 32:4 - He is the Rock, his work is perfect: for all his ways are judgment: a God of truth and without iniquity, just and right is he.

God does NOT command people to commit such acts of sin such as the ones you mentioned; that is MAN'S doing. God gave man a free will to do with what man wants to do and, because of Adam and Eve's sin in the Garden of Eden, that is the reason why man commits sinful acts such as rape, murder, adultery, lust, etc. It is not by God's command that these and other sinful acts happen - it is man that is the cause of them and on his/her own God-given free will. Man is responsible for his/her own actions - not God.

In response to your 'additional details', God is the Creator of all things. He gives life and so has the right to take life away. Job 1:21 - And said, Naked came I out of my mother's womb, and naked shall I return thither: the Lord gave, and the Lord hath taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord.

God is sovereign. We're not. God is all-powerful. We're not. Fortunately for us, God is holy. We're not. So He can do anything He wants to do. But there are certain things He wouldn't do because of His nature.

It's acceptable if God commands it and you follow it.

I doubt that God will "command" anything to us... Unless you are Bush and God (devil in this case) "commands" you to kill people and steal their property.

You're an idiot if you believe that it's right to go out and do something like murder "because god told you to".
