Younger than "teen". Hence the "pre".

"Preteen" is what is normally referred to now as "tween". It's kind of the 9-12 year old age group.

So many terms. Pre-teen technically is anything before 13, but most people consider it 5-12 or sometimes 8-12. Toddler is usually just walking to 4. And then there's the all new 'tweens. the age between a little kid and teen, usually 10-12 (the double digit years).

The Prefix "pre" Means before. So therefore any age before the word teen comes in. So Any age below thirteen is a preteen
