Hi,
I am so sorry to hear about your dental problems. Please take one problem at a time. The answer to your question about, "Should your dentist replace your onlays for free?"...the answer is NO. Most restorative procedures are only guaranteed if you continue to get regular check ups and cleanings. It sounds as if you did not do that. Just bite the bullet (one that does not contain sugar) and get one tooth fixed at a time. Go to a dental school to have your work done, its cheaper. good luck and fix the most damaged teeth first. Stay away from sugar and soda. Brush and floss everyday. Call around to see if any dentist will let you pay on a monthly basis.

If you had these porcelain onlays done two years ago I would go back to the dentist who did them. Most dentist may consider the onlays to have been made from faulty material and return it to the lab. But if you have rampant decay from candy/sodas as you have mentioned they may look at it as neglect on your part. Decay can get in around the margins of crowns and onlays if they are not kept clean by brushing and flossing. Needing two root canals and crowns after that at the age of 30 is not common, but is not unheard of either. If you are a soda sipper and don't brush and floss as much as you should, then you have to change your behavior. If you don't, your in for a long, painful and expensive journey into what we refer to as "paying for the Porch" or the one I like best "dental hell". First step is get back to the dentist and stress your desire to change your behavior and get your teeth back into shape and see what advise he/she can give you. If you have the desire, (which I think you do or you wouldn't be here asking) they are there to help you, and you can do it! Good luck!

It depends on weather or not it was normal wear and tear on your onlays. If you still see the same dentist most will redo theiir work for a reduced cost like just lab fees or free. But if their findings show that it was because of you not keeping it clean then it's not their responsibility...Also there are a lot of things that can be done to help with the financial burden...Here's a couple
