Maybe they feel lead here, maybe they are seeking the truth, maybe they have questions. Maybe they don't want to have to deal with Christians in person, and they can come here and get the info they want as they want it and not have to deal with anyone they don't want to deal with.
I think its awesome. I don't like how judgemental they can be at times, but I have seen it from every side on here. As Christians we are called to spread the word. I like seeing their views, it helps me understand the other side and it helps me to learn how to minister.

Perhaps a better question is to ask why so many Christians (Protestants in particular) know so little about the history or philosophy of their own religion -- while so many non-believers know so much more.
While I an an agnostic, I know probably know more about Christianity than most of the Christians here -- and am therefore in a position to answer questions.
In addition, non-Christians must be vigilant, because so many Christian Extremists are trying to legislate their views. One need only look at George Bush's refusal to allow stem cell research, Jeb Bush's refusal to let Terri Schiavo die with dignity and the Kansas Board of Education's decision to teach creationism and ban the teaching of evolution to discover that there is a real problem in this country.
The majority of Christians are reasonable people (actually -- most Christians believe in evolution) -- but there are some nuts out there & we have to watch out for them.
I suspect that a few nonbelievers are here for sport -- but most are not.

Because I want to become a believer, but I still have no proof, so I keep searching here in Religion & Spirituality.
Just kidding.
I am not against Religion. I think Religion helped the Human Race immensely. I wouldn't mind converting to any religion, as long as I have enough proof.
The reason why I lurk around here is because I'm fascinated by people's ability to believe without real proof. I'm not trying to insult anyone, but I know what I wrote is insulting, at least it would be for me. I truly am fascinated, and used to try to convince religious people that they are wrong, but I stopped.
I realized that in the future all people will become either religious or atheists, and regardless which way it's going to turn out, humanity will turn out just fine.
To Bluefirewitch: If my inability to believe (believe in the nonexistence of God) in God makes me "religious," then my inability to believe(believe in the nonexistence of Santa) in Santa makes me religious also?
Let's say that there is a closed community in which there was nobody to teach about any type of religion. The members of the community will believe in the non existence of God, Buddha, and Krishna. Are they religious?
If you'll say that you cannot believe in the non existence of something before getting exposed to it, then just being exposed to it made me religious?
If I don't believe that Gravity repels me off the Earth, or let me restate it: If I believe that Gravity has no repelling effect between myself and Earth, does that make me religious?
If it does, than I'm truly religious.

Improving my understanding of the spiritually minded. Improving my typing and articulation skills. Improving my arguments against the religious, learning from other atheist.
I also have many legit questions I seek answers for in regards to religious beliefs and peoples views regarding spirituality thingys.
eg.
I could ask "Why does God, in many cases, condone rape and the slaughter of innocent children in the old testament? ". I wouldn't ask this question in the Electronics section now would I? Its interesting to see how people think and answer such questions. I am reading your mind. Analyzing you. picking your thoughts. Examining your behavior.
Kudos

Why do so many Christians and Muslims feel that only they have the keys to heaven and think "Religion" is only for them.
Religion by definition does not include any particular Deity, it is merely a codified system of belief and faith that a person follows for some kind of spiritual enlightenment.
It is you Christians that feel you own the word "Religion" and "Belief" as well as "Faith" and "Spirit".
You do not own any of these words, and you do not understand that these words have consequence and meaning for the rest of us..... and we have perhaps even MORE right to be here than perhaps you do......

They have to come here and tell christians what hypocrites we are for trying to force our religion down their throats. Oooops, sorry, thats what the atheists are doing now, trying to force their non-blelief down our throats. The pot calling the kettle black huh? Sometimes you get mixed up with all the different types of hypocritical bullies running around loose.

they like a good fight. It's like the old saying "good vs. evil". one more thing, they're always saying that we "push" our religion onto them but why are they constantly telling us that we need to give up our "security blanket" and come down to the real world? So who are the ones pushing people?

Atheists do not believe in God, which in turn make them His enemy. His enemy wants to know everything about anything to do with exhortation of Christ so that they can find a weakness and use it against them.

We don't. We hang out in the society and culture section.
And who said you have to be religious to be spiritual?
