Now I like legal immigrants, but what the hell? Kids who are learning English get to have a separate bus route from kids who already speak English? Wouldn't it be a better for them to ride together so they can help the kids learn English?

If the kids can't speak English, then they should learn. They should not have a separate bus route. Every child should be allowed to ride the school bus. OUR TAX DOLLARS PAY FOR THAT SCHOOL BUS!

Obviously it would make more sense for children who don't speak English to ride a bus with English speakers if the goal was to practice their English. However, the school might have had a good reason for separating the routes, one for the regular elementary school, and one for the language learning center. Perhaps they have different schedules, they may be next door but technically different facilities and therefore legally the bus is not supposed to drop kids off at the wrong place. Or since the language center is private, maybe the bus is paid for privately and doesn't get public funds to pick up kids whose parents haven't paid for the kids to ride the bus. Perhaps the bus for the language center has to do more running around the city since kids might come from a wider geographical area and is on a much tighter schedule. In any case, you're right it makes sense for English and non-English speakers to ride together, but for some reason the school district decided not to do it that way. However I don't see why this outrages people as much as it seems to.

I'm first generation mexican american in my family and there are still a few family members who don't speak english. But I'm a firm believer that when you go to live in another country you should learn the language and should not expect to be treated any differently because of your language disability. You're right, they should all ride the bus together so they can interact and learn english better. And maybe the other children will learn something interesting about the other children's cultures.

Not allowing black students to ride a school bus because they spoke English is a criminal act. I hope they get a good lawyer and sue the sh!t out of that bus company.

English is the national language. Period.

I actually can't make sense of that article. The bus was going to another school? They moved outside of the school's attendance area but were still going to the same school? What?

The great state of MN strikes again.

Speak English and you don't get to ride the bus.

Its a private school, if they have a certain bus for each learning center, the parents of their students should respect that and not send them on the wrong bus. Im sure people on here will blow this all out of proportion, as aparently the media did.
