If you have a local dvla office go there direct with all the paperwork to the car ie log book, mot, insurance and the paperwork for the new reg along with the new plates if you want to swap them there and then. They will then do the change for you. If there are any problems they will tell you. If you brought the plate from dvla direct you will not have to pay anything else otherwise it will cost you £80 registration fee. They will stamp all documents and issue a new tax disc on surrender of the old one. It takes about 30 mins. If you can not get to a local office in person then you can apply by post but this will take longer

Take your son's reg document & insurance certificate.... Your son's MOT & a photocopy of his current tax disc to local DVLA office.

Tell them that you want to transfer the registration of the car.

Give them £80.00

Wait 7 working days

Go back to DVLA office and pick up new tax disc

Screw in the new Plates

Job done!

You'll find an application form at the post office to fill in for change of plates. When I had mine from DVLA Instructions were enclosed. Have you looked on your registration document?

Why not have a look on the DVLA website? There must be a link there and if not give them a ring!

take the certificate for the plate along with your log book and mot to any dvla office and have the plate transferred,, it will cost you £80, if you do not the money they mention is to retain the plate for you,, you keep the plate but pay retention every year you don't use it,, hope this helps
