Eclectus's (spelling? LOL What IS the plural for eclectus? Eclectii? LOL) are very independent birds. It's not that they can't be loving and like one on one attention, but most prefer to just do their own thing. They like to be talked to, they like to play, they like tricks and all that, but they aren't really the "cuddly" bird that macaws and cockatoos are. They are quite capable of loving you just as much as you love them, they just normally prefer it if the loving is done from a distance that doesn't include you putting your hands on them.

The eclectus's I know are very intelligent. Elmo is a girl (red), and she talks like crazy. She's sort of out of the norm there. She talks more than any eclectus that I know. She's funny, she likes her toys, and she doesn't mind being cuddled, once in a while.

Marshall is a male (green). He's a little more skittish than your average eclectus, but through it has learned some great tricks. When he perches on your hand, you can take the other hand, make it look like a gun and say "Bang!" and Marshall will fall over backward and stick his tongue out, hanging upside down and "dead" on your finger.

Simon is the COOLEST eclectus I know. Simon's mom works at a pet store, and Simon rides along every day. His favorite thing to do in the world is to play with the cash register, and push all the buttons. Simon plays "Little Green Football" where we can put him upside down in our hands, bounce him on his back in our hands and then launch him, where he'll fly across the room and back. Simon's attached to my Macaw, Rio. Simon's goal in life is to BE a macaw. He imitates all of Rio's noises and actively tries to mimic all of Rio's mannerisms. It's hysterical.

Eclectus parrots are awesome. My favorite birds are in this order: Macaws, Eclectus and then Amazons. They're wayyyyy too much fun.

Eclectus parrots are definitely the way to go especially if you live in an apartment. Macaws, Amazons and Cockatoos can drive everyone crazy with their loud voices. Eclectuses are quieter, less demanding birds and lots of people think they are reserved. They just express themselves differently that's all. My Eclectus, Emmett is a bundle of laughs. He behaves live a clown. He learnt to open the cage door. Instead of escaping, he enticed my two cats into the cage with him and locked the door! Imagine our shock at the sight!! He did it a few times again after that and then we changed to a new escape-proof lock.
He's just the sweetest thing.. Just pay a little extra attention to make sure he gets a good diet with lost of fresh fruits and veggies.

Eclectus have always seemed kind of reserved in my opinion, but they make very nice pets. They're not as cuddly or interactive as a cockatoo for example, but they also aren't as demanding. They're a little more independent. They still need your attention and lots of time out of their cage, but they aren't as likely to do things like scream for your attention when you're busy or throw temper tantrums like some birds. They have some special dietary concerns you should be aware of if you buy one, but if you get the bird from a breeder or someone else knowledgeable about it, they should be able to tell you what to feed and what to avoid.
