Air trapped (just like cracking your knuckles). Best bet, believe it or not, drink a lot of water during the day, you'll hydrate your body.

It isn't actually in your head, but rather it is your neck that is "cracking". And according to my chiropractor, that means that you have some mis-aligned discs in your neck. Nothing too serious but going to a chiro for some therapy would make you feel much better. The way my chiro "snaps' my neck back into alignment is a little on the weird side, but it works wonders (it looks like she is about to snap my neck like they show in the movies). I have the same sounds when I move my head too, so nothing too serious to worry about.

a chum of mine did and broke his neck. he's no longer paralyzed, yet is disabled and could be for life. He can walk, yet is rather unsteady and shakes and wobbles badly. Arthritis has taken over his body and he's taking an excellent type of extreme powered discomfort drugs. All of this because of a dive contained in the shallow end of a swimming pool even as inebriated.

This could be arthritis in the upper neck. The best advice I can give you is to get it checked out by a doctor. If you have ever had a car accident (whiplash) or a knock onthe head, this may be the root cause. To quote the obvious - everybody is different, but you should seek out medical advice.

I have the same thing. When I mentioned it to my doctor, she didn't seem too concerned about it, so I wouldn't loose sleep over it.
