i often get drawn into a confrontation or have to avoid the situation depending on the circumstances. This has been a pattern I have found for years. I dont have any clever glib answers and would sooner just ripp them apart which I have done. I know this come into the area of assertiveness and I am probably a passive aggressive type. There must be alot of information on this subject and places to go for help. I am sick of being victimized by bullies and set up to either avoid or fight.

Read Miss Manners.

She's written a lot about how to deal with people.

You're falling into a common trap of thinking that your choices are only be a doormat or be rude.

Rudeness escalates things, leading to fights.

But you don't have to be a doormat, either.

Miss Manners (get your hands on some of her books) explains how to avoid both of those choices, politely, properly, correctly, and often devastatingly.

what you might find help full is a life skills coach, they can show you how to not get drawn in to these situations, and it is simple really, you learn to act not react, fighting words, are just that intended to make you come out fighting, so you arm your self with thoughts and words to counter the come on's, and you are able to defuse the situation and walk away with your head up, not necessarily a winner, because in this situation there will be no winner, but as well there will be no looser either,
