Yeah, Japan is great if you have a lot of money, but if you're on a budget, Korea is the place to go. For example: 8 stops on a subway in Japan costs about $3. In Korea, you can travel for about an hour for $1.

Another example: Low-end places to stay in Japan cost around $60-70. In Korea, $25-35 and you get free shampoo, soap and probably a toothbrush!

If you're coming from the US, I would recommend Korea. Japan is great too, however, the dollar is very weak against the yen and is doing much better against the won. It's much cheaper to go to Korea than to go to Japan, and it's pretty much the same anyway. Most young people speak some English in Korea and there's lots to do.

If you can't make up your mind, why don't you try this?
See which country has more things to offer you in terms of attractions, shopping, and food.
The one country that is able to satisfy all of your needs, that's the country you should go.
Personally, i would prefer Japan as the food is nice, the shopping is terrific and i haven't visited all the attractions over there. Also, even if i don't speak Japanese, i can still travel on my own, as they are very considerate for those people who don't speak Japanese, they have signs, announcements and labels in simple English, that enables me to understand most things.

In Korea, I love the food, and the souvenirs, but shopping for clothes is very difficult because they don't allow people to try on their clothes. There's no fitting room at all. So i can't shop till i drop. Thus, i will still pick Japan.

Honestly, I think I'd prefer Korea. Japan is beautiful, from what I've heard, and I want to visit both someday, but I feel I'd learn more about the world from visiting Korea, since they've had a more turbulent time in recent history.

i would say to visit korea. korea has sooooooooooo many things to offer. as the person above stated there isnt a place to try on clothes in the market place. but korea does have very high end malls. in korea you can find great fashionable clothes for around 10-20 $ and the food is great! most of the koreans can speak simple english and its such a beautiful contry. korea has very easy transportaion because almost everyone in korea rides the busses and the subways. thus its much easier to travel around and alot cheaper. and ive seen many tv programs and i think japan is a weird place. the way that they dress and make up... i beleive that most people dress up on sunday in costumes and wear different"" clothing. korea is very fahsionable and many hott people!

I would base your thinking on money... if you don't have much of it, then come to Korea. If you have a fairly decent sized budget, then head to Japan.
If you are really confused as to where to go... do both!
Fly into Seoul, do some traveling, take the bus or train down to Busan... take the ferry across to Fukuoka, and make your way upto Tokyo. Good, and economical way to visit both countries.

I'd prefer Korea.
Especially if you are an English speaker cuz Koreans are better English speaking than Japanese. Anyway it's only from my experience.
Foods and clothes are much cheaper and a lot of foreigners are there.
I guess you can get help from them.
