For me I found that college (university) math was much tougher, the pace was much faster, and the amount of work was significantly more. The pace in class is very fast, and you usually have to be on your toes to keep up.

This depends on whether you're talking about the math courses a math major might take or those taken as general ed courses by other students.

In general, though, college math is more theoretical and abstract than high school math. They are more concerned with ideas in general than with calculation procedures. Many college math classes, particularly those required for math majors, are proof-based, while most high school classes aren't.

In many high school classes, students spend a lot of class time working on problems. In college almost all class time is spent on lecture--with the professor explaining problems or proving theorems. Student work is generally expected to be done outside of class.

Plan on spending more time studying in college math classes than in high school. You will likely have fewer problems to do than in high school (and homework normally doesn't count for much--if any--of your grade). However, the problems themselves are likely to be MUCH harder.

My college algebra was easier than my high school algebra. It was the same content, but in college we covered in one semester what we took a whole year to cover in high school.

For non-math majors (like me), taking college algebra at a community college was great.
