The reason the dentist tells you not to poke your teeth with sharp objects is because if you slip you could potentially cut your gums. You could also break off a piece of something into your gums. If this happens you could end up with a painful reaction (an abscess).

The reason they poke at your teeth is to look for cavities and check the health status of your gums. They do this routinely so are highly unlikely to slip.

As a toddler I went to a pediatric dentist and he could provide my mom a prescription for a drug that would settle me down and calm my nerves as a results of fact I acted an identical way. i could drink the meds. a pair of hour in the previous my appointment. If she has to have important dental paintings it is extra straightforward to have the sedation, i'm not sure yet i think of a number of pediatric dentist will use giggling gasoline. i could desire this over the sedation. perchance get a 2nd opinion from yet another dentist to be certain if there is a less complicated thank you to sedate her than by a IV, yet you do no longer desire her to sense any soreness, so in case you are able to desire to sedate her then do it.

Because you don't know the how, where or why of the poking! It's necessary for us to "poke" to detect decay in the pits, in between and below the gum line of your teeth. Answer enough?

They can see what they are doing and you are just sticking randomly?? Or they just want to save the fun of hurting you for themselves.
