Attended a wedding recently; the bridesmaids came down the aisle in long dresses, followed by an attendant that was in a dress similiar to the bridesmaids, but the dress was shorter. Even though this bridesmaid was immediately before the bride, she went to the end of the line of the bridesmaids. After the wedding, she left last and did not have a groomsman to walk with; she walked alone. No one at the wedding could explain this, but several had seen weddings like this before. Does anyone know what this person would be? Thanks.

We thought it might be a junior bridesmaid, but she was in her early 20's...about the same age as the bride and other attendants.

That sounds really strange. Maybe it could have been like the miniature bride. I have heard of that before. But they usually wear a dress very similar to the bride. They can walk alone or with a miniature groom. Or she could have had a disability and that's why she walked out last so that she wouldn't of had to stand up for that long. I don't really know, it's strange. I think that the most logical thing to do though would be to ask the bride or groom about it or maybe somebody close to the family. It could even be a family tradition.

Certainly sounds odd... I agree that the only thing that seems to fit is Junior Bridesmaid. Unless it's some sort of particular regional tradition that not many people are aware of... or they perhaps did something different with the Maid of Honor.

Note to all brides out there: this is why programs listing the wedding party are a good idea!

Definitely a junior Bridesmaid. My youngest sister has played this role in two weddings thus far, she is now old enough to be called full BM, but until someone graduates college and are on their own they are a JrBM. Don't know why she didn't have a partner, though, my older sisters both paired up everyone, even the Jr members.

She could have been a bridesmaid, or the Maid of Honor...if she was the last person out, before the bride, then chances are she was the MoH.

Usually the maid/matron of honor walks in alone....and some brides decide to put their maid of honor in a dress different but similar to the other bridesmaids.

Normally the maid of honor is the last to come out... right before the bride. But the maid of honor stands closest to the bride.... so I'm not sure what that person's role in the wedding was.

Maybe it was just a bridesmaid who wanted to wear a shorter version of the dress. Who knows? I'm pretty certain it was not any kind of new "role" you need to be concerned about.
