To tell you the truth, atheism (the lack of theism) is demeaned more than any other position. Atheists are the most mistrusted minority in America. Honestly.

Because people are realizing that religion was never about morals, it has always been about controlling people's minds. People are starting to think for themselves and realizing that religion is so full of contradictions and lacks any logic and has been used to suppress people throughout history to keep them beaten down.
People are also realizing that being a better person does not mean religion, it is something that you yourself are responsible for, not some person telling you how to be or act.
Religion is finally being seen for the fist time for what it is, children's stories that are believed by childish minds. When we all realize that religion is a lie, then and only then will the world be a better place.

Morality is a cultural product that transcends religion. It occurs in all societies, regardless of how many gods they have - or don't have. At best, religion reflects a pale, sometimes twisted sense of human morality. In short, you need no gods to be a moral, productive, and caring member of a society. I raised 5 such wonderful human beings.

Society is growing up. More and more people are realizing that one can be moral, live a good and productive life, and help their fellow human beings without believing in invisible gods, angels on pinheads, men who are swallowed whole by a great fish and live to tell the tale, and carpenters who come back from the dead. We have real answers to questions that once we were satisfied to answer with myths and comforting stories.

Religion is no longer about any of those things. It's about three things:

1. Telling everyone that they are wrong and that you know what is absolutely true.
2. Attempting to convert everyone around you.
3. Should aforementioned conversion fail, insult their intelligence and morality by telling them how ignorant they are.

The church and religion has just evolved into another form of social status with no true love for anybody else. They are more concerned with being right than anything else.

Lol. "Killing in the name of"

Very few religious people are interested in lifting others up and making the world a better place. Generally religion is about controlling and manipulating people.

Because those who claim to be religious are unable to live up to the standards that they set for others. They disprove their own beliefs almost every day to others without realizing it.

Add to that the fact that an astounding amount of people are incredibly ignorant regarding the history of their own faith, and it basically becomes invalidated.

a character (or religion) is link to what actions and practices they preach. far too many religions preach their practices and not follow through themselve.

You don't need religion tobe a good person with great morals!

Turns out you were wrong. Religion encourages violence, hatred, bigotry, and descrimination. It kept slavery thriving, tried to keep down the civil right's movement, and oppressed women for thousands of years.

Try reading the bible sometime. It's a real eye-opener.
