Limit your carb intake, and increase your protein intake. In order for your metabolism to increase you have to eat more. I know this sounds wrong but its true. Your metabolism is the rate at which your body uses energy, your body gets energy from the food you eat, therefore eating more (healthy foods though, no fat!) will help to increase your metabolism. Some people are just genetically predisposed to having a slower metabolism, but by eating the right foods and exercising, you can increase it. Protein helps to burn calories because your body works harder to digest proteins and therefore you burn calories digesting proteins as opposed to carbs, which provide very little metabolic energy. So more protein, less carbs, more exercise... you can do it! it just takes time!

Lift weights. It really is that simple. Muscle burns calories like nothing else. Here's a simple fact: a pound of fat burns 23 calories per day (I think it's 23...don't hold me to it!) while a pound of muscle burns 50. So you see what you need more of! Hit the weights room, do big compound exercises such as squats, deadlifts, press ups (you'll need at least 3 sets per muscle group). Check out this website, it has some fantastic articles, it may or may not be your thing but it has training plans, advice and great people who're always willing to help if you need advice! http://www.t-nation.com/index.jsp
Another factor to consider is the amount of food you're consuming; people assume that the less calories they eat, the quicker they'll shed the fat. But in reality a lot of this 'weight' lost is water, lean muscle tissue (which you want!) and even bone. Keep calories sensible; for a man I wouldn't recommend going below 1,800 a day minimum.
Hope this helps :o)

Don't do diuretics. All they do is make you lose water weight which will come right back.
Eat several small meals a day, ideally every three-four hours. This keeps your metabolism up because your body is working to digest, and it keeps your body out of famine mode so it doesn't try to store as much.

I personally don't believe in weighing myself as I feel the number is not relevant to me as long as I feel healthy..blah blah blah. That being said I have lost a bit of weight during the past few years (20-25 lbs) and I attiribute that to drinking green tea. I began drinking green tea 3 times a day (with no sugar!) and it has done wonders! The real green tea (not in a bag) is better. I felt like it sped up my metabolism and it kind of "cleans you out" in the bathroom until you get used to it (sorry nasty I know!).
I also feel like it helps when I ate something really rich/sweet if I drink green tea right after to avoid feeling sick from all the sweetness. It also has other great benefits!

Eat, Eat, Eat, That is the best way. Make sure you eat small portions. If you continue to eat through-out the day your metabolism will continue to run. Eat 6 to 8 times a day. Breakfast is the most important. You can lose up to10lbs just by eating a healthy breakfast.

Make sure you are not eating too much sugar. Do aerobic exercises in the morning on an empty stomach. That'll boost your fat burning. Add coffee/caffeine to the mix and that can help also.

3 ways to raise metabolism:
* eat more. Eat lots of very small meals throughout the day.
* move more. Working temporarily raises your metabolism.
* build muscles. Muscles permanently raise your metabolism.
