We have a 15 year old Aussie who we rescued 3 years ago. The doorbell never used to bother him, but lately when it rings (or when he hears a similar sound on TV) he starts pacing and his body trembles for about 15-20 minutes. How can I correct this? I don't know why all of a sudden the noise makes him so terrified.

Disconnect the doorbell and let your company knock on the door.

That's an odd one. Older dogs do tend to become wierd. We had an english setter mix since he was a pup and he just died last year at 15. For the last 4 years or so of his life, he became deathly afraid of fireworks, thunderstorms, loud cars, etc. Not sure why he developed the fear of loud noises...it just appeared out of nowhere. Is it one of those units that you can change the chime tone in? If not...maybe disconnect it until he's not with you any more.

We have (in the family) a German Shepers/Lab mix.
He is now 13 and is showing strange behaviour.
He freaks out if wind comes through window. He is okay if doors are open except one - If this door is open he cannot settle.
He cannot be left at home alone.
A fire alarm was beeping as the battery was low and he went beserk - Would not settle all night.
I personally know this dog and he was a frist class guard dog. he was very confident of himself and surroundings until he turned 12.

Awww!!! I have a Aussie too!! He might think that he is going to be abused maybe of an insident before he was rescued. It may be caused by the high Peircing noise of the bell. I totally think that this should be checked out by a professional or vet.

Maybe he remembered something from the past, it could be.I think you have show him the doorbell and how it works, stroking him and speaking him with the nice voice, later try to play with him and the doorbell. When he sees what it is and when this meens good things for him (comes somebody he likes, you give him what he likes) it will help. You have to be pacient, psycological trauma is hard to win.

I did in this way with thunder and my dogs never were afraid of it.Something like this I had with cats too. When animal understands where comes the sound from, they become quiet.

a good number of fantastic suggestion from others. basically supply your older boy time to get used to having a mushy up- commence round. I keep in options many years in the past after I had a 9 three hundred and sixty 5 days previous woman and that i keen to get a domestic dog. She become horrified to assert the least. She doesn't seem straight away on the domestic dog and he or she growled at it anytime it approached her and moved off elsewhere. This went on for more effective or less a month, perchance more effective. Then i began to take the domestic dog out on the walks consisting of her and this appeared to make her settle for it more effective.finally she and the domestic dog grew to grow to be the finest of friends. once they lay down and sleep jointly it truly is an illustration that they are associates. in the interim, on your case, don`t go away them jointly unsupervised till you're particular they have bonded. continuously greet your older dogs first once you upward push up contained in the mornings or go back from an vacation. Make a fuss of him first and feed him first. Don`t chastise him for growling on the domestic dog or telling her off mildly as this can intervene with the organic bonding procedure. yet do no longer enable the older dogs to make an total blown attack on the domestic dog as this isn't the organic reaction of an older dogs to a domestic dog and can want to offer up the pair from ever growing associates and also might want to injure the domestic dog. So be vigilant. Its not likely that an total attack will take position as mature and sturdy dogs are often extremely tolerant of youthful domestic dogs. My 9 three hundred and sixty 5 days previous male extremely tells off my 9 month previous domestic dog extremely harshly at cases even as the domestic dog steps out of line yet he by no ability makes use of his tooth or hurts him bodily. basically places him on his lower back and growls at him. they're the finest of associates and sleep and play jointly. good success and be affected human being. playstation . Don`t let the domestic dog pester the former dogs for too lengthy at a time. yet she could supply up on her own if the older dogs snaps or growls at her.
