The Prophets of the Old Testament did not lie. The flaws you may find were results of merely just writing down what has been dictated. They have no way of putting their own interpretation as most of them were not really educated; so they wrote down whatever is the best of their ears could hear.
The lie then would always fall on the followers or teachers who will interpret the Prophet's writings. It may not also be lie but rather an interpretation according to one's perceptions.
An example; An eye for an eye and tooth for a tooth may literrally mean to do to others what others have done to you. Like if someone slaps you on the face, slap him back. However, it was told to an assembly of Israelites and it clearly stated in the Book there that for those who made an offense, the offender will be tried by the assembly to decide the kind of punishment. Like the laws of our present generation in USA, an offender will face the punishment decided by a jury. An eye for an eye therefore stands for seeing the crime through the eye of the criminal and through the eye of justice to find what punishment should be met..
Speaking of lies, there is a great religion however, that started with the lies and those who lied greatly found power, wealth and world control until they themselves have believed in their own lies and people have been deceived eversince.

Well...my brother is in the army and most of those who have been in the military or are now know how important command and respect are. Yet, when I asked my brother (right after the prison atrocity) if he would carry out a command he knew was wrong he told me that he was taught, by superior officers, that if a command was given that they knew was wrong they should respectfully decline to do it.
Now doing so, as we have seen if we watch the news from Iraq, is likely to get you court marshaled...but you will have your honor in tact.
I liken this to your question. Of course, by now I would have made up my mind about lies and what is good and bad in "my book", as I have about many things. But, if my church told me to do something I knew was wrong I would NOT do it. Even if it meant I was told I could not come back.
That is the glory of having free will...and living in a country where I can exercise that free will. And I have a God who I can say to..hey, I did not think that was right and I respectfully declined to do it...and he will forgive me and then its up to him whether or not to deal with the situation at church.

Then, since God is the word, God would be a liar. Which he's not.
Therefore, it can't happen.
And if it did, all the other 2.1 billion people would no longer have a purpose and probably just give up, allowing 1/3 of humanity to stop functioning..

i have no book that i follow so there are no lies ...
however i dont think there are lies in anyones books ... there are possibly errors , contradictions etc
but these books are so old and stories handed down through generations , i think it only natural that they should not be perfect....
but people need to start admitting that and the respect will follow

Our father god wants us to know him, he wants us to hear his word to know all he has done us. he would not let his holy book tell us lies only people lie not god. the Bible was writen by the holy spirits influence on man, not satans influence.

It's not a problem with Buddhism-it isn't a system of theology just a system of practical philosophy.

Interesting responses so far. So let me get this straight: that if somebody tried to introduce errors deliberately, god would interfere with their free will, right?
