I just got a tat about 3 weeks ago. When I was at the shop prior to getting the tat they had me fill out a form. The form asked questions about whether or not I was sick, if I had aids or any other blood disease, if I was under the influence of alcohol or drugs, and it also asked if I had taken any pain pills prior to coming to the shop. I had to initial next to each question stating I hadn't done those things and/or was clean. So just from the form I would think if you answered yes to any of their questions you would not be able to get a tat.
I would sugest to be on the safe side bring a drink and the meds with you, if your artist sees what you are taking and ok's it take them if he doesn't ok them then you will still be able to get your tat that day since you hadn't taken the meds before hand.
good luck, hope this helps.

My sister is a tattoo artist. Honestly, it doesn't REALLY matter . . . you're not going to bleed to death. If anything, blood thinning is more of an inconvenience for the tattooist because he/she has to wipe off more blood when doing the tattoo. There are those that say it also effects the healing process (if there is a lot of blood), but that's unproven.

But, if you're still freaky on the idea, then stay away from asperine, that is a known blood thinner.

Regarding pain during a tattoo, well . . . no pain, no gain. And keep in mind, everyone has different sensitivity and pain tolerance levels. What might hurt one person in one area of the body may not hurt you much at all.

Hey I would not take any types of pills BUT YOU CAN HAVE THE ARTIST USE BACTINE on you while tattooing. This numbs the tattoo and you don't have to worry about pills thinning your blood. I use this on my customers and 98% of them like the results. also i would recommend ibuprofen only if you have sensitive skin and your tattoo raises. (only after the tattoo has been applied.) Funny thing is that customers say that the tattoo didn't hurt and they come back for more.( this bactine stuff takes away from the whole tattoo exp)

You really don't want to take anything before you get the tattoo. Try to wait until after you get it done to help with the little bit of soreness. Most reputable tattoo shops won't do a tattoo if you've taken anything anyway. Just try and wait until it's done. It'll be all good.
Hope this helps and good luck!

2-3 Ibuprofen 1 hour before you go will ease your pain a bit. Try Advil Motrin etc.

you shouldn't take anything because they all thin the blood, and so does alcohol so you shouldn't drink for a certain # of hours before you get it done. and regular advil etc will not really make much of a difference while you are getting work done (pain wise) but I have known people that have bled a lot more with it.

Ask the artist doing your tattoo. He or she should be able to suggest something. I think you'll find that the pain isn't all that bad though. I went in to get mine thinking it was going to be excruciating and it wasn't bad at all. I'd just suck it up and go get it without taking anything.

Just avoid getting a tattoo on a bone area. I got my first one on my ankle and cried buckets, though after awhile my ankle got numb and I forgot about the pain lol. My next one i'm probably going to get on my arm near my shoulder where there is plenty of fat lol. Good luck. (it really isn't bad, and if they are a good tatoo place then they will try to distract you)

Taking pain killers really don't work if you're trying to numb your body before you get the tattoo.

The best thing would be to ask your Tattoo-Artist.Getting a tattoo really doesn't hurt that bad....the pain is bearable without pain meds.
