One factor might be distance. I live about 4 miles from a Pontiac dealer and about an hour drive away from a Mazda dealer. The cars seem to be about the same price when all is said and done. The Pontiac gets better gas mileage, but the Mazda is bigger.

Go Vibe, its a Toyota, and it has a timing chain. No belt to pay hundreds of dollars to get changed.

The Mazda 3 is rated better in every single test I have read. It is a newer design, has more power, and in general is just a little more refined. While the Vibe is basically a Toyota Matrix, a mechanic advised me that the only things that go wrong are the GM parts on them. Otherwise they have been very reliable.

The Mazda also has a 5sp auto, whereas the Pontiac is a 4sp. The Vibe design has been out for some time now, and is due for a redesign. Probably when the new Corolla's roll later this year.

My entire family drives Toyota's, that being said, would to the Mazda. Just a better car.

How much space is in the GS6 sedan. the mileage drops to 33 mpg. Its all your choice but with GM's new warranty I'd go for the Vibe. The dealer is more convenient. I'd suggest you get all your oil changes at the Pontiac dealer. With a small four cylinder motor seriously consider using Mobil One when your first oil change is due. Keep an eye prices it's on sale occasionally. They will allow you to bring it with you at oil change intervals instead of their brand which is stored in bulk somewhere.

Go with the Mazda. I just got rid of my Pontiac Grand Prix... too many little problems. I have learned that Japanese cars are just superior to American made. Also, my sister has a Vibe and she is experiencing the same little glitches. If you go to www.edmunds.com you can do a side by side comparison of both vehicles and read editor's reviews.

Of the two vehicles you mentioned I would get the Mazda 5, but look at the Jeep Compass or Patriot as well, they are great crossovers. The 2wd Compass gets 30mpg. Also look at the saturn Vue.
