Wow, that IS freakin' weird. It's in the KJV but not the NIV.

The word generally denotes one who pretends to be religious when he is not (though it is sometimes used to mean simply a bad man, e.g., Job 8:13; Job 13:16; Isa. 9:17; Isa. 33:14). Hypocrisy was the besetting sin of the Pharisees, and was severely condemned by the Lord (Matt. 23:13-33; Mark 12:38-40; Luke 11:37-44; Luke 20:46-47).
Matt. 23:14 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye devour widows’ houses, and for a pretence make long prayer: therefore ye shall receive the greater damnation.
Mark 12:40 Which devour widows’ houses, and for a pretence make long prayers: these shall receive greater damnation.
They don't like being judged like this. Like a lot of people on here say They CAN'T HANDLE THE TRUTH, so they leave things out they don't like.
Oh! And, I use the KJV.

I think the bibles that don't have you should have little regard for them and not use them. Such bibles have a lot missing from them and not just that verse. I think the NIV is the one in question. Usually it is because for whatever reason they didn't think the manuscripts that had the verse was valid.
NASB is a pretty good one, it's hard to read sometimes because it is a pretty accurate translation of the original text. But its reliable.

Because there are different manuscript variants and it is in some and not in others. The manuscripts that scholars think are the oldest and hence the most accurate don't have it. The same text is found in Mark 12:38-40 in all versions though, so whether it is or is not in Matthew, it is still in the Bible and the Matthew thing doesn't change theology.

Well it's in the KJV,NKJV,NAS but not in the NIV and the NLT. Hmmmmmmm I will have to ask husband(he is a pastor) about this and do some research.In the NLT it does have the verse but as verse 13 "How terrible it will be for you to teachers of relgious law and you Pharisees.Hypocrites! For you won't let others enter in the Kingdom of Heaven, and you won't go in yourselves.(NLT) The it proceeds to verse 15 wow never noticed that before.

Many older manuscripts omit this passage, thus many translators do not include it. It says: “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! because you devour widows’ houses and for a pretense offer long prayers; on this account you will receive judgment more abundantly.”
Some Bibles, like the NWT for one, do not include it in the main text but in the footnotes.

Probably because it tells all the evangelicals who live in huge mansions and by expensive cars and clothes just what hypocrits they are.
