I am using the same high quality sealer I used on my travertine floors and walls. They are all well sealed. The bottle says it works on all natural stone including granite. Why won't these counters seal? They absorb water if they are splashed.

Granite is much, much denser and much less porous than travertine. Travertine is more like a sponge.. it absorbs everything. Granite's density doesn't allow it to absorb liquids as quickly. There's also a chance that the manufacturer sealed the granite as well.

The two stones are different in their physical properties. Granite is made up of the minerals Quartz and Feldspar. Both are very hard minerals. Travertine is primarily calcium carbonate, which is very soft.

When you apply the sealer to the granite, does it make the stone look darker (and wet)? If it does, chances are that the sealer is going into the stone. If not, it probably is already very well sealed.

the surface used for the sealant needs to be rough.
