I would do it with a Gun, it will take less then a split second when the lady or guy pulls the trigger. There will be hardly no pain at all but you will have some sort of Heat/ light burning sensation, Trust me Nothing serious at all.
You can deal with the pain trust me on it, if you cant take the pain I would truly have to say something is wrong :)
Let me put it this way, If someone Pinched you in the arm that would hurt Much worse then an air piercing.
* NOTE * anyone here that tells you to go with a needle do not listen to them, the Gun is Spring loaded and designed for the Piercing of the Ear lobes. If you use a needle its done by hand. Even though the Needles are extreamly sharp and would cut in through the lobe like butter I still recommend the gun. I have done it both ways and the gun is the best and quickest way.
:)
I dont see how an Ear piercing Gun would leave you with a High Risk of Infection When
1st- The only thing that Enters The skin is the Brand New Stud Ear Ring.
2nd- Your Ear lobe is wiped with Alcohol Before and After the Piercing.
3rd- You go home and take care of your Ears by cleaning them with either Alcohol or some sort of Disinfectant 3 times a day.
Explain to me HOW you will get your ears infected if you do all that.
Its those certain kids that Do not Clean / Wash their hands and they play with their ear. And those kids who DO Not keep the area clean.
Both My daughters were under 3 months old when they got their ears peirced and Not one Time ever did it get infected.
For the Young Lady Who asked this Question, Either way is Good what Truely matters is How you take care of your Ear AFTER the job is done. My personally Oppionion and Expericance is that the Gun is much faster.
* NOTE to HOTTDOGGIE * I have used those Guns and there is nothing wrong with them. You act like when you go to get your ears pierced with the gun is going to have blood splatter and etc all over it. LOL Wake up MORON If it wasnt Sanitary Enough to use the STATE wouldnt allow the use of them.
2nd- Why do people have to do aprentice ship and become Trained when peircing the Human body. WAKE UP AGAIN MORON its because they are allowed to Enter places and Pierce places Other then the Fat of an Ear Lobe thats why. They are allowed to Pierce places with Cartlage and Even More Delicate Private Areas. So before you go around speaking some BS, make sure you know what your talking about.
This is a Damn Ear Lobe not her Vagina Area.
I think Hotdoggie needs to finish Highschool before he starts Answering Other peoples Questions.

go for the needle. for sure. look up body piercing online, and you'll find lots of info on why the needle is preferable. no reputable piercer uses a gun. All needles used in piercing are single use, disposable. The gun is used over and over and over again. It cannot be sterilized. Furthermore, you've seen the girls working at the stores that use the gun? Do you think they've had a lot of extensive training? Most people at professional piercing places have a 2-3 year apprenticeship before they can pierce on their own.
gun piercings throb for quite a while after ward. They feel hot. The only advantage is they're really really fast. Needle really doesn't hurt, and it doesn't throb. Also with a gun piercing, the quality of jewelry isn't as great, so you have to twist it to be sure it doesn't adhere to the skin and get stuck. With a needle, they should use implant grade stainless steel, same as they'd use for a hip replacement or surgical implant. No need to twist, it won't adhere.
To me, it's less painful than plucking your eyebrows, less painful than a shot from the dentist, and certainly less painful than doing it your self. Less than a shot.
I've had both needle and gun piercings, and I'm going to say go with the needle. and i've had lots and lots of stuff pierced, and trust me, you will walk out of there smiling. It's not going to hurt.

First of all, it's not bad at all. It's nothing like having an injection at the dentist. Don't pierce your own ears, the gun is the way to go. Have it done with a gun, that way your ear is pierced and the earring is already in your ear. It's over before you can count to 1. By the time you say 1, you have pierced ears and it's so much fun. Don't even think about it, it's no big deal at all!!

get it done with a needle. i answered your question already. but NO they do n ot use guns in tattoo shops... they are not sterilized liek needles are. tattoo/piercing shops are a dentist liek environment. so everything is completely sterile and they go through rigourous apprentice ships and even schooling. where as in the mall. someone can walk by and sneeze on the gun or something. and the cashier is only trained to pull the trigger. you can get hapatitis and other diseases from piercing guns. a needle is just as quick as the gun. you wont feel anyting... just a pinch. you will be alot better off with the needle cause the piercer knows what they are doing. guns often dont pierce right and are more prone to migration...
get it done with a needle... most of these people that say gun have only gotten thei piercings with a gun..... they probably dont know what a needle feels liks....
edit: so what if a needle is slicing through like butter.. they heal faster. guns force a blunt unsharp object through the ear causign alot of unecessary trauma...and a longer healing duration.. and if you get a cartilage piercing with a gun you are more prone to the cartilage shattering and possibly cartilage collapse.. which permanently distorts your ear..

I would have to say you have nothing to worry about for the most part. I got my 1st holes when I was 6 mos, and 2nd holes when I was 16 or 17 years. I would choose the gun. It happens so quickly you won't even notice. There will be a little noise, and a sting. It may be tender while it is healing, however the process of piercing itself, is not. I think Numbing injections at the dentist would be much worse. Don't be afraid, you'll be fine!

Going to a reputable piercing studio and being pierced with a needle will minimize your pain and greatly reduce complications.
Guns are filthy, vile things that cause blunt force trauma to your flesh with a standard sided earring stud of inferior quality. The cleaning solution you are given also breeds pseudomonous bacteria, which eat cartilage...yum!
Needled piercings make a sliver shaped incision in your skin and make room for the jewelry (which tends to be a safer and more approriate gauge at a piercing studio). This also makes a clean cut and makes healing an easier and less painful process. A piercing professional, not the Claires girl, is trained in anatomy, cross contamination and blood borne pathogens. They simply possess more knowledge and patience for this practice. Check out safepiercing.org for more information.
Good luck!

Please ignore the one idiot who claims that guns are more sanitary than needles. Idiot. Seriously, have you seen the piercing guns? There is no way to effectively clean those. Think about all the nasty things is has touched and think about the gross people at the mall who've had it pierce them. Do you really want that?
Go to a professional piercer. It'll actually hurt less (the shock of the gun is not good) because it is a smooth motion. It'll burn more than anything. Plus, you should feel a lot more comfortable talking to a professional who has had real training, not a teenage idiot with a weapon. Really, truly, you do not want to end up with a nasty infection or disease because you went to a mall joint.

Have it done with a gun. You'll hardly feel a thing. I had it done as a child years and years ago, and I didn't even feel anything. It's just cartilage so you shouldn't experience any pain, perhaps just a little prick at most. As long as you keep it clean and follow all the instructions that the piercer gives you, you'll be fine. Most people who experience piercing pain comes from the ear lobe getting infected not from the actual piercing.
