Perhaps this might be a silly question, and to some it will be, but it's just a thought that I am currently wondering. Many Western parents (not I!) encourage their children to believe in Santa Claus, the Easter bunny, the tooth fairy, etc. Do you suppose that continual let-down during childhood might lead to cynicism, which might lead to a lack of faith in God?

Speaking as an embittered and cynical 40 year old I can say that it takes more than finding out there's no Santa Claus to bring about disillusionment.

There is a difference between a cynical mind, and a rational one... just fyi.

But no, I doubt that it makes much difference.
