how can I rid of depression?

Depends on how you define depression. Some people eat horrible diets, get no exercise, and have nothing going on in their lives and wonder why they're "depressed." If this is the case, change your diet to a healthy one, exercise 4-5 times a week, start volunteering somewhere to contribute to society, take up a new hobby, and add some passion/excitement to your life by getting active in the world around you.
If you have think you have a more serious problem, any/all doctors would love to get you hooked on drugs. Or, you can go talk to a therapist and dig through your psyche to find out what you're mad/sad about

First, don't take to heart the answers that say you need to keep busy, just think cheerful thoughts, find God or take a vacation. Depression can be medical and none of those things are medical treatments. Depression can also be situational which brings us to my next point.

There are a lot of things that can ease the symptoms of depression but the very first thing you want to do is get to the source of what's making you depressed. If you're in an abusive relationship and your Dad just died and your house was destroyed in a fire started by Gnomes then the source of your sadness is pretty obvious. You DO need a vacation. And to make some changes in your life and that might take care of your depression.

But if there isn't an obvious reason for your blues then you need other kinds of help. You're going to want to get to a doctor. They will probably run some tests, check your thyroid etc to find any obvious causes. If something turns up then treatment might be as easy as taking a thyroid supplement every morning.

If nothing turns up they will probably suggest and Antidepressant drug such as Paxil or Prozac. This is a good option for many people but if you're not comfortable taking a drug there are other things you can do.

The first and most effective is to get at least 30 minutes of cardiovascular exercise every day. You'll be amazed at how quickly this will help.

Next make sure you get enough, but not too much sleep. Always go to bed at the same time at night and wake up at the same time every morning. This will help your body begin to regulate your moods.

Start eating lots of fruits, veggies, whole grains and lean protein. These foods will supply more of the vitamins and minerals that your body depends on to keep you healthy.

And finally, consider taking a Fish Oil supplement. You'll need a high dose (look around on the web for a good amount) of Omega-3 fatty acids. These are essential to your brain and studies show they can be a powerful mood regulator.

I've been there and I know it sucks but you can get back to normal. I swear!

Keep a diary of your life. Write something every day. Concentrate on writing how you felt during the day, and especally when things happened to you either bad or good. Analyze to yourself in writing what your reactions were to things that went on during the day. It helps to get the feelings out and on paper. Write it only for yourself. After a week or a month, go back and read it. Especally when you are feeling good. You may even laugh at yourself! I used this method and it worked. Also, if you are using any "street drugs", that is your first step...QUIT!

Depressives don't (want to be happy). They want to be unhappy to confirm they're depressed. If they were happy they couldn't be depressed anymore. They'd have to go out into the world and live. Which can be depressing.

An excellent online resource to "chat" real time with peers who may be experiencing the same feelings or issues as you are is http://www.ChatSuicide.org. ChatSuicide.org is an anonymous text-based chat that you can access from your phone or computer. Peer support is often recognized as more effective than some of the other support options, but should not in itself replace other forms of help either.

Give it a try, it's anonymous - http://www.ChatSuicide.org
Online chat and phone text is going to replace traditional telephone voice, as is the trend we see going forward, right?

Sometimes you need professional help like therapy or even medicines. I know that is hard for people to realize but it can change your life for the better. Exercise can also help.
