If the question is do anti-biorics cause yeast infections the answer is actually NO.
What happens is that anti-biotics target certain, if not all bacteria. Your vagina has many many bacteria, yeast, all kinds of other fun things as well. When you take anti-biotics you kill the bacteria that are helping to keep the yeast and other stuff down there in check. Yeast population explodes causing an infection!

Unfortunately so. Your vagina has natural bacteria that are there to maintain the normal ph of 4.5. Sometimes when you take strong or long-term antibiotics, it can kill off the normal bacteria in your vagina and leaves it vulnerable to yeast because it is a perfect host. Warm and moisture allows fungus to grow, thus the yeast infection. Some doctors will give you a Diflucan, oral med for yeast infections when you get an antibiotics Rx, this will prevent or lessen the chances of getting one.

I have only had 2 personally, both were with antibiotics!!

You can get a yeast infection from certain antibiotics, not all of them. If your doctor wants to put you on Bactrum, ask for Macrobid instead. This will limit your chances.

It really all boils down to how your body reactes. Everyone is different; my sister gets yeast infections very easily, whereas I do not. It is definitely NOT a reason to not use the antibiotic. If your doctor thinks that you need them, you should take them.

Yes, in fact it's likely. Yeast (flora)and "good" bacteria (fauna) both exist in balance in a healthy vagina. One keeps the other in check. An anti-biotic kills "bad and good" bacteria which allows the yeast multiply. Birth control pills can also alter this balance. A natural way to treat this (after you finish the anti-biotic) is take acidophilus for an over-the-counter supplement. It has live cultures that replace the missing fauna and restore balance. You can get acidophilus in most stores. I know target, Walmart, and Walgreens have them. If you are prone to yeast infections you can take it daily.

It is a side effect because antibiotics kill all bacteria in your system not just the bad bacteria. The good bacteria keeps yeast infections at bay. Eat plenty of yogurt (like 2 to 3 servings a day) when taking antibiotics. You can also get acidophilus supplement at health food stores to mix in (it has to be refridgerated) or Floristat at the pharmacy (its OTC but you have to ask for it) as a supplement.

YES! Unfortunately antibiotics kill good bacteria as well as bad bacteria, so when you take them you are at a higher risk of getting a yeast infection. What I do, (besides trying to NEVER take antibiotics) is ingest large amounts of yogurt. Yoplait has those yogurt smoothies, strawberry banana rocks!!! My mom, who is a nurse, says that it won't help, but not only has it worked on me, but my 5-yr-old niece; besides, my mom is in the pocket of the pharmaceutical companies, so whatever...

But seriously, yogurt will regulate the good bacteria in your system, and prevent or get rid of your yeast infection, without harmful side effects!!!!

You don't get the yeast infection from taking anti-biotics you get it because the anti-biotics kill off all bacteria in your body including the beneficial ones that keep yeast from growing in your body.

Eat lots of yogurt while you are on anti-biotics it will help replace the good bacteria the anti-biotics are killing off.
