Women who drink a lot of alcohol are more likely to get breast cancer, there is some thought that underarm deodorants (can't remember the exact component) might contribute to it. Also some abortion proceedures can contribute to early developement of cancer. Some people believe your daily acid level saliva/urine needs to be more neutral/basic, that the more acidic the body the more likely you are to develope cancer, and in any case that fresh fruit and vegetables, especially things like strawberries, oranges, carrot, radishes, turnips, etc. help your body stay healthy and avoid all kinds of cancer. If you develope lumps in your breasts they can just be cysts or benign tumours (it's all fatty tissue) but a biopsy is always a good idea so don't wait, time makes all the difference. Right now they believe the tamoxin extract of yew bark (some people have been using it for tea but it is a poisonous plant) offers the best treatment of breast cancer. As much as I like nice breasts, it's not worth a life to save a breast, if there is a life or death decision, have the operation!

My friend is about to finish her last radiation treatment, and early detection from a mammogram helped her keep her breast and not have to have chemotherapy. I will tell you a few things I know. If you are still having periods, breast cancer is more serious because estrogen feeds the cancer cells. My sister-in-law had a masectomy and a hysterectomy because she was only 40 when diagnosed. Breast Cancer can be hereditary, but definiately don't have to be. Do self breast exams and get an ultrasound of the breast or mammograms on time. Alcohol can increase your chances of getting breast cancer. I have also heard that if you have less than two kids your chances of getting breast cancer can be higher, there are hormones released when you are pregnant that fight breast cancer cells. Take Care

Probably not enough. My aunt currently has it (along with other forms of cancer unfortunately). I think BOTH of my grandmothers had it before they died. According to my mom, my aunt's breast felt like a rock when my mom tried to hug her. I know a friend's Grandpa had it, so it hits men, too. It runs in families, so I say I don't know enough because I should know more about what I could do to prevent it, such as eating more leafy green vegetables. I know also that it doesn't have to kill a person- it can be beat.

If you are just asking a general question of ones knowledge of
BC then I would say we don't know enough. If you are inquiring for a person then I would check out the website:
www.breastcancer.org
There is a forum and also a live chat room.

Your question make me think you have one, or have the suspicion you have. I'm 60. Lots of relatives and friends had it. Almost all of them got cured. In people I know, all of them, really. Perhaps my answer tranquilizes you. That was my only objective in answering you.

Sorry. To many times the word "have". English is not my language. Hope you understand. Luck.

Any one can get it. It can come back any time. It happened to my mother. If it is common in your family you can have surgery to have all of your brest tissue removed and that can prevent you form getting the disease.

Not nearly enough! For being such a big thing they sure do not give us much information about it unless we go look for it.
