For drop cookies use two spoons. If they are roll out cookies you could use a glass (be sure to dip the glass rim in flour before making the impression on the cookie dough). I have different sizes of glasses so I use a different one each time and that way have a variety of sizes for kids, adults, those on a diet etc.

Depends on what kind of dough, if it's sugar cookie dough that needs to be rolled out you could use a glass dipped in flour or even a sharp knife. If it's a soft dough like chocolate chip two spoons would work best. Happy baking.

It depends on what kind of cookie you want to make.
If you want to bake drop cookie, you can use two spoon method. Also, ice cream scoop works best for me. If you wanna use flat cookies, put batter in the refrigerator for at least 30min and roll it. If you don't have roller, you can use wine bottle. and cut into a any shape you want with knife.
If you are cookie lover and bake cookies a lot, buy some cookie cutters which are not very expensive. Go to michaels with 40% off coupon.

Glasses and cans and such are good ideas, but if you want to make different shapes, I would suggest using a pizza cutter. You can roll is around on your dough and make fun shapely cookies! Much easier and fun than a knife, especially if you're not needing straight lines.

Both techniques you mention would work but you could just look around the kitchen grab a paring knife and start tracing. Roll dough to 1/4inch thickness and using a glass, trivet, coaster, any distinctive shape gently using the tip of the paring knife follow the shape. You can even do your own hand - just make sure the item isn't so heavy that it squishes the dough and have fun!

you can use the edge of a glass to cut them in circles and then you can use a fork to mark dots on it if you want, or if you have small children check out. they usually have great toys that can be of good use to print patterns on cookies to make them more fun.
just clean them up well before using them.
other thing you can do is to make a roll and cut slices of 1 cm.
you can also roll the dough on the table and cut in squares with a knife. first you cut horizontal or vertical lines so you have long rectangles and then you cut them into smaller pieces.
you can also use the edge of an empty can to cut round shaped cookies.
If you like home made cookies it will be worth you buy a set of cookie cutters. They are very usefull. However, when you do not have youhave to let your imagination flow.

If you want them round and all the same size try using any glass. Roll out your dough and dip the rim of the glass in flour before each cut. It works great. I do it all the time when I make homemade biscuits.

The glass dipped in flour is the most common substitute for a cookie cutter.
A biscuit cutter, or small molds should work as well. Are there small children's toys around the house that will make cute designs for your cookies?
