Okay, for people who ask for translations or language questions, does the "thumbs down" make you less likely to choose that answer as the best?

I was just thinking that the "thumbs down" can be more important in this section, because a translation is either right or wrong, so thumbs down could help someone to think that someone mistranslated. However, I have also noticed that many correct answers get thumbs down (from spiteful people?), so it can send a mixed signal.

What do you think? Is it helpful specifically in the Language section?

I totally agree with Mr Robot. Sometimes I get thumbs down and I know that my translations are right just because there are some stupid people over there. On the contrary, when I read a good translation made by some other user, I say that he or she is right, so the asker feels more comfident and choose that answer, because it is not very common here that people accepts that someone else did a good job.

Deep down I hope that giving thumbs down to an incorrect answer will help the questioner find out what's the truth. Unfortunately it seems that it doesn't always work that way. How anyone can pick an on-line translator translation (link provided and all) as best answer when there answers given by people that clearly state that it's their language, well, that's beyond what I can comprehend.

Well, I think it gives the asker a clue at least. I always give thumbs down when someone gives a wrong traslation or uses an online translator (because online translators make funny translations. Still, people want to look smart answering a question they have no idea about, but they look ridiculous to me)

Some people just give every other answer a thumbs down because they think it gives them a better chance to get best answer.

I always thumb down any wrong answer I see. I hardly ever thumb up a good answer.

No help, really!
I think you are right, it may mean ”spiteful people”.
However, sometimes the translations cry havoc!

You are welcome
