if you hear "will you marry me"... do you think of white dress and flowers? or do you picture yourself with someone every waking moment?

this is my view= marriage is probobly the most boring thing ever.. you are not as indenendant as you were when you were single, your life is going to work and coming home and asking how was eachother's day and go to sleep, if you're a guy and you go to a strip club chances are your wife will kill you, you have to spend every waking moment with the same person, have sex with the same person for all eternity (unless you want to be unfaithful), watch him/her get fat and then get wrinkles.
weddings=spending a sea of money on a 5 hr cerimony...i'd regret that later.

When my husband proposed to me I saw forever. I didn't think about a white dress or flowers. I didn't necessarily thing of myself with someone every waking moment. I did however see myself with the only man that I've ever loved... just living life together. You make marriage sound like a prison. It is not like that at all for me. My husband works offshore and is gone 30 days at a time. I hate seeing him leave... and not because I can't be with him every moment... but because my best friend is leaving for a month. There is more to a marriage than work, home.. how was your day, and sleep. We do all sorts of things together and with friends. I guess I'm just a hopeless romantic... but hey, to each their own.

I had been single until last year. I partied, had fun, dated lots of guys. So once I fell in love with my current boyfriend. It was great. I want to spend the rest of my life with him. I'm not scared of waking up to him every morning and I'm not worried about growing old with him. I already wake up to him every morning and if I dont I feel weird. I love knowing that my man is there with me. I feel safe and loved. I've grown up and I dont need to cheat or be wild to have fun. We have fun together. And just cause your married doesnt mean you have to be together 24/7. You can still hang out with your friends. You actually need some space from each other, thats healthy. When my boyfriend does ask me to marry him. I'm going to be very happy. We already know that we are going to get married, have a family and live happily ever after. I dont care how big or small the wedding is as long as were happy and my ring is shiney! When you meet that person that makes you laugh all the time, and loves you 24/7 you wont be afraid to spend the rest of your life with him. If you have doubts hes probably not the one.

I read your viewpoint and I must say it's pretty pessimesitc, to say the least.
Weddings do not have to be expensive. Neither to the receptions.... Not if the couple is willing to make some sacrifices.
As for spending one's life together with your spouse... Isn't that the whole idea? Not to live a very lonely life and to die alone? If one's lucky enough to find someone that can be called their best friend and love them as much as life itself..... Then they should get married. It's all about love and if you don't have it, then you're missing out on something special.

I just saw the ring...j/k I guess when i hear wedding i think of the dress and party and whatnot, when i hear marraige i see my best freind and having kids and getting old on the porch that sort of thing. When i got asked i didnt really think anything i was just happy couldnt stop smiling---no dress no forever just happiness.
Edit in responce to your additional info: Marraige is what you put into it if all you do is come home and get fat, stop having sex and stop talking then yeah marraige would suck...thats why you have to do fun things together have friends do other things, be creative in the bedroom. And i dont care if my hubby goes to the strip club...gets him excited for when he comes home to me. I work at it to keep it fun and interesting

I have never been one for the whole wedding experience.I enjoy others weddings but just got married in Oct. with a no fuss county court magistrate performing the ceremony in the office of magistrates.
I also don't see myself with someone every waking moment because I'm my own person, independent and i enjoy my time alone.
I love my husband very much but it is not a ball and chain marriage.

I just thought "WOW!" And on a second wedding, you don't think about a white dress and flowers. I wore a black dress and picked up a cheap bouquet of purple flowers. It was done and over with in a couple hours at the JP.
Happiness doesn't mean blowing $10K.

I usually think white dress and flowers for the first five seconds, then dread the next 30yrs of having to waking up before my husband does so he doesn't see how i look in the morning.

You are out of your friggin mind! You can't see the beauty in spending the rest of your life growing old with someone that loves you and knows you more than anyone else in the world? You can't see the magic in waking up next to this person every day and having children with them? My vision is loving this man for the rest of my life and growing a family together. Good luck in life though it may be very lonely for you.
