My cats chew up their dry food over their dish (for the most part) and the tiny morsels of food fall back into the dish. They'll start hanging out around the dish, acting as if it's empty. When I look to see if it's empty, the little pieces that they produced by crunching them are still in the dish. The little snots make me put more food in. Mind you, it's not like it's been out there for days...overnight at the most.

Ah, so they're just being their natural, anal retentive selves. I should have known.

:-D

I feed them Nutro Complete Care Weight Management. My female cat is very overweight and my male, just slightly. I'm picky about what I feed them. I WILL NOT feed them Eukanuba or Iams, as they test on animals. I refuse to feed them Purina. They're probably pissed that it's weight management formula, lol.

They have you trained to feed them when they stop eating.

Let it go for a day or two – they won't starve, and they'll eat when they're hungry.

Cats are very snobby and probably cannot be bothered to actually scrounge for the food, just remember to keep empty the little pieces every now and then.

My cats do this too. I think its because the bigger pieces are easier to eat up and when the crumbs are left they feel like there is not more food left for them to eat :P

Why not provide a bowl of just the tiny morsels, this will eventually go away...

first answer is right, but you could argue that they love their food, it is one of the great pleasures in their little lves, so why not spoil them and feed them what they like

Cats are finicky. You gotta love 'em for it - AND everything else.

Remember: cats were worshiped as gods in ancient times, and they never forgot it!
