How do I read the contents of a Windows folder?

Question

In windows one can display the filenames contained within the folder. I am assuming folders are files also that contain names of other files.
I want to use a function within ABAP code to do this but could also use a windows utitilty to build a file and then upload the file into SAP via and ABAP function.
