I've been saying this for years.
Banish religion, and most of the segregation and hatred in the world would drop out of existence immediately.
Some of the most devastating wars that have been fought, were religion-based.
The fact that most beliefs tend to be exclusive to a certain race of people, says to me that, if that one factor were to be negated, harmony would be much more achievable.

Clearly not. As many answerers have said, there is still the everyday avarice, racial biases, stupidity, etc. These show no signs of decreasing in people who are not "religious." I mean no disrespect to non-religious people, it's just an observation that we're all in the same boat there.
Of course, there is no such thing possible as no religion to divide us. Atheism, contrary to statements of many, is a religion, though a singularly truncated one: it describes one single belief, the lack of a deity. Most other religions also include an ethic and a form of human/god interaction.

Nope. We are divisive by nature. We find all kinds of things to divide over. Like political party, social class, hair color, gender, left or right handedness, the list goes on and on. Until we are all the same there will never be world peace.

Even if there were no religion, there would not be peace. Few wars are actually derived from religious conflict, as war is more often motivated by personal reasons from leaders, desire to capture key resources, desire to eradicate people who are "different" and a whole lot of other reasons.

No. As long as people are divided, there will be conflict.
There can be differences, but not be identified as much or put so much stock in the differences. Differentiation does not necessarily mean division.

While I believe religion is the number one division of humanity, I have a feeling we would do a good job to define ourselves in non-religous ways (say by gender, race, teritory, etc.) and would eventually divide ourselves up just as it is now.

No we would still fight over land and other things. There will never be peace on earth even if all races become one.

People divide themselves by religion, race, sexual orientation, philosophy, and anything else they can come up with. Do you really think that religion is all there is?
