The Navy /Marines operate LCAC's (Landing Craft Air Cushion) for amphibious assults.

A hover craft is supported on a cushion of air generated by fans discharging the air to the underside of the vehilce. Pusher fans propell the vehicle over relatively flat surfaces with dramatically reduced friction as compared to conventional water craft. This allows the LCAC to achieve speeds far greater than a conventional landing craft.

A vehicle designed to hover off the ground and be propelled by air. It uses either fans to lift up off of the ground and other fans to propel it forward or turn with. Can be used on water or solid ground, you would not want to use it over sand however.
