We are speaking hypothetically when we say god is a serial killer (i.e. If the bible is true, then he is a serial killer). I didn't know it was necessary to add the "if the bible is true" part. I thought that was assumed. Oh well....
We are assuming for the sake of the argument that he exists and are following it to it's logical conclusions. We are still quite aware that he does not.

First, they don't believe in God.
Then, Christians tell them to repent and God will show his Love.
Then Atheists say, if your God is love, then Why A.B.C. in an attempt to prove to the Christians that they are believing in something false. Through their logic, a God is all loving all caring and would never do anything bad. That being an atheist has more morality than God does per the Bible.
Then Christians say something to defend it, which doesnt agree with any other christians, or make sense. So the atheists use this tool to prove their point.
I believe in God. I like the bible. It shows that God is God and can do whatever he wants. and that we should try to get on his good side so we don't get smote.

Both are arguments against believing in god. The bible is fiction, not truth, and certainly not "divine." Basing your beliefs on such a book is foolish.
The argument that god is a "serial killer" is meant to point out that the god that Christians worship doesn't seem to be the same god presented in the bible. This implies that they aren't even following the "rules" of their supposedly "divine" book and just making things up to fit their desires.

They are saying it's a work of fiction because of it's many contradictions and whimsy. The comparison of God as a serial killer is probably a pathetic attempt to make believers see another possibility.

Your first premise is correct.
The second premise is incorrect. There is no belief that a god exists We are however given the description of Jehovah in the OT stunned that anyone could believe that he is a benevolent god. The description is at best the description of a terribly insecure god and at worst, a murderous, genocidal homophobic, mysoginistic god. It therefore follows that the dictates contained therein and purportedly based on his desires should not be followed by an intelligent, rational human being.

I don't think that God is a serial killer as first of all I don't believe that he exists. It's just that the Bible describes God as really violent.

Well I don't believe in god so I think the bible is fiction, but since you believe in it you are worshipping a serial killer whether the bible is true or not.

I have never heard of an atheist, who by definition does not believe in god, attribute to god any actions of any sort.
If you don't believe in the monster in your closet, you would be highly unlikely to blame the monster for ruining your night's sleep.
I think that what you may have encountered is someone saying that the Bible is a work of fiction and expressing surprise that anyone would worship the god described therein.

Well Darth Vader is a fictional mass murderer as well.
Why can't we point out that the fictional character you believe to be a real thin isn't the same as you believe it to be? You say your god is a god of love and choose to ignore his childish acts of vengeance against various people including the group of people he deemed as his chosen ones. You believe a work of imagination to be real, we are discussing a work of fiction that you look at as real. You make a leap to think up things about your Deity that aren't even based on this deities so called holy book.

"This book is true. I'm a serial killer. I'm omnipotent."
Since I'm obviously not omnipotent, the book is in question. However, if you hold for the sake of argument that I am indeed omnipotent and the book is true, then I'm a serial killer.
Yahweh is not real. However, accepting for the sake of arguement that he does exist as the Bible describes him, he would be a homocidal, genocidal, infantocidal maniac.
