I am going to see my dentist next week but I just wanted some opinions on what I should have done to my teeth. I have recently recovered from bulimia after suffering from it for over 2 years. Due to being bulimic my teeth are now terrible. They have cavities that I can seen with my own eyes and are rather painful. I don't know whether to get crowns on them so that they still look natural or to just have normal fillings. however i really dont want those grey coloured fillings as they look awful! Does anyone know my options? I want to go to my dentist being able to tell him what I want before he tries to sell me the most expensive option!!!

If your teeth are extensivly decayed or damaged, your best option will most likely be crowns. Crowns completely cover the tooth so will give you the strongest and best-looking restoration. White fillings, although attractive because they look good and are much cheaper, tend to last much shorter than crowns. Without seeing the status of your mouth, these are only GENERAL comments and in your individual case, it may be that white fillings are an adequate option in your dentist's judgement.

Take into account everything your dentist recommends, and if you're not convinced, or feel like you haven't been properly educated about your options, get a second opinion.

Beating bulimia is a great personal triumph for you - a wonderful reward is to rejuvenate your smile! You have to be personally confident that you're making the right choice when you're rewarding yourself like this.

You didn't mention if you had insurance, they do cover parts of what you need. When you have your fillings fixed they're going to tell you whether or not you may or may not need any root canals. I would definitely recommend white fillings, I just had some silver ones replaced, and you can't tell at all.
Be careful when they tell you your only option is to have the tooth pulled, get a second opinion. I had a dentist tell me that, so I went to another one and all I needed was a root canal, 6 years later I'm fine with it.
Crowns are really expensive, so after you fix your teeth with the white fillings, see what they look like, and if you can afford it and really want it then go ahead and do it. Also veneers may be anothe option. Good luck.

You need to go to a dentist and see what your options are. If your teeth are in really bad shape, then maybe you dont have the option to make the decisions of what you want done to your teeth. If you have bad cavaties that hurt you might need a root canal. Sometimes just a filling might just do the job for you. They initially look at your teeth and give you options of what you need or can get done. Fillings now days are white, they dont do the silver fillings anymore, so your teeth looks like you didnt get anything done. I honest dentist wont try to sell you the most expensive thing, he should know that you are on a budjet and offer you something that you can afford or find a way to afford. You must go to a dentist before your teeth get worst, the worst it gets the more money you need to spend on getting them fixed.
