No it is not nessisary to buy a registry cleaner. I would recomend though Ad-Aware SE personal. It is totally free and gives updates every month or so.

No. Go to www.majorgeek.com . On the left side of the page are catagories, go to registery, there are dozens of free and share-ware registry cleaners there. I use 2 of them for Win XP so there safe.

goto http://www.publicdomain.com and search there for free registry cleaners. Alternatively, just type registry cleaners in your search bar (or google / yahoo / etc) and you should have pages of them there.
