I don't particularly need it for anything; according to the NPV concept from finance I should get cash for it now and re-invest in other areas.

I think it's more of a metaphore for selling out your principals for earthly rewards.
For instance seeing someone drop a money clip and rather than return it, you just keep it. That would be a step in a direction away from compassion and humaneness.

Check out the Blasphemy Challenge if you actually want to "sell" your soul. I highyl don't reccomend this but they are wrong because you could still ask for forgivness after you did it.

Sure it is. Low-talent and no-talent rock stars do it all the time.
That explains why so many mediocre "performers" are rich and famous. They have sold their souls to the devil-or somebody in exchange for success.
