The trip i want to book is in 8 weeks 5 days. Should I do it? P.S. Travel insurance does not cover this reason for cancellation. I'll be out about $2000.00

They usually state 6 to 8 weeks. However, I applied for a passport in August (peak travel month) and it came in about 4 weeks so I wouldn't worry too much. If you are concerned, you should just pay the expedited handling fee or include a prepaid express mail envelope (with a tracking # so you can check on it). I recently applied for a new passport (due to name change-marriage), with the expedited fee I got the passport in about a week.

Where are you located? There are processing centers where you can get an emergency passport in 1 day. I once had to wait four hours in Miami while my birth certificate was faxed to them from Ohio. It's only a temporary one, but they send you the permanent one in the mail. Call your nearest Passport agency to find out.

you can pay an added amount and you will have your passport delivered to you in just about a week. Money talks, so the more it costs the quicker you get it!

You can pay an additional fee for a speedier processing of your application if you're concerned about time.
