do you need a legal document? A religion? I would like my children to have one but not really sure what to do now

There are no legal documents. Basically, you pick who you want the godparents to be and then when your child is baptised they are witnesses to it.

You need to ask the person(s) (a man and a woman) if they are interested and depending upon the religion the soon to be godparents will need proof of themselves being baptized in that religion.. then at the time of baptism the Church will give you a certificate. You also need to contact the Church/priest and make arrangements and they will give you pamphlets on what need to be done.

Godparent is not a legal position, and should the parents seriously intend the godparents to act as foster parents in case of their death, this must be legally specified through the usual means (such as a will).

Actually speaking you don't make yourself one. Are you are a role model to some one? You need to prove yourself. Any one who admires your qualities may provide you an opportunity to become god-parent.
And then, your responsibility increases. You need to be much more than parent and probably, be a god to the child!

you just ask someone if they would like to be the Godfather/mother of your child. There's no paperwork or anything, and its not a religious thing either. Its the fact that you considered these people to be like a second pair of parents to your child.

Accept Jesus christ as lord and saviour. the bible says whosoever does this will be saved.be born again, cause you need to be saved to be able to put your children in the right part.Train your child the way they should go and when they grow they will not depart.

the parents (you) just choose a man and a woman (they don't even have to know eachother!) that you are very close to before baptism. it's not an official ceremony or anything.

you ask someone to be the god parent and then talk to your pastor/priest and go from there.
